Researchers at the University of Tampere and Aalto University showed volunteer men and women photos of models in varying stages of undress.
Before all you women in sensible shoes cry sexist pig!, I hasten to add the models also were male and female.
The volunteers electrical brain activity was monitored.
Results appear in the current edition of the science journal PLoS One.
They make me proud to work for this newspaper, to share space with such brain food as the SUNshine Girl.
Professor Jari Hietanen reports the less clothes the models wore, the quicker each volunteers grey matter kicked into action.
This may have roots in how our cave-man ancestor identified a potential mate. It was easier if they were naked.
In less than 0.2 seconds, the brain processes pictures of nude bodies more efficiently than clothed bodies, Professor Hietanen says.
Responses were the strongest when the participants looked at (nudes), the second strongest to bodies in swimsuits, and the weakest to fully clothed bodies.

Hahaha ...
Belly laugh......GG
Don't know if that has made me smarter, but it has made life more interesting and enjoyable, for just like the saying that we carnivores say to PETA that if God didn't want us to eat meat, He would not have made it so "tasty;" if God didn't want us to ogle the anatomy of beautiful women "au natural" why did he make the female anatomy so alluring and fascinating?
However, it goes without saying that there are some women (dare I suggest, Liberal females? lol) who should NEVER be seen clothed, never mind undressed, as some of us have weak stomachs.
Of course the previous declaration does not apply for males on the make, in bars, after about 8 to 10 drinks and it's 10 minutes before closing time; then that rule is null and void and they all (even the woof-woofs) look absolutely spectacular and desirable. lol
So brain activity mimicking caveman instincts is now . smarter?
OK, apparently the study concludes that, because of some measurable increase in the speed of brain activity, people seem smarter than they really are. Reading the article makes one dumber. Posting about it makes one an idiot.
Did I get that right? I’ve lost too many brain cells now to tell.
Lord, I must have the smartest husband in the world. He can hear my shower running from six blocks away!
In AFTER the Helen Thomas pick, dammit.
Brain Drain.
Would be a much better story if it were backed up with an extensive photo spread.
Go to the picture gallery, Joe. Then scroll down.
Another great theory ruined with logic and facts. What do you plan on shooting down next, Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, or Obamacare?
What kind of results would I get if I tried it with projected holograms? Sign me up!
“How does the author comes into a conclusion that faster reaction on certain stimuli makes us smarter?”
Yeah, seems he spent too much time staring at numbers.
Seriously though, seems a “duh” that the brain processes the natural unconcealed figure than when adorned with a proliferation of random concealments.
Just sayin'...
“Well ya see Norm, it’s like this... A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members.
“In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we all know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer elimates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That’s why you always feel smarter after a few beers.”
Astute question - probably being pushed to increase accessibility of porn to the kids so they can be smarter too.
It's like saying that showing the whole face of a family member, vs. showing a shot from the lips to the eyebrows, makes you smarter because you recognize the person faster.
