A reconstruction based on the skull of Norways best-preserved Stone Age skeleton makes it possible to study the features of a boy who lived outside Stavanger 7 500 years ago.
It is hoped that this reconstruction is a good likeness and that, if someone who knew him in life had been presented with this restoration, they would hopefully have recognised the face, says Jenny Barber, an MSc student at the University of Dundee in Scotland.
She has scientifically rebuilt the face of the strong and stocky Viste Boy, who lived in the Vistehola cave near Stavanger, so that people can now look him right in the eye.
Ms Barber is studying forensic art, an unusual discipline embracing such elements as human anatomy and identification in order to recreate the appearance of an actual person.
This modelling method is primarily employed to assist police investigations, and is little known or used in Norway. But the countrys most extensive reconstruction of a Stone Age skeleton has now been achieved.

Norwegian would ping.
I guess we had sharp instruments at the time so that they could shave their heads but is that an artistic license thing?
I would like to see 20 of these experts in separate rooms produce almost an identical form....then I might be a believer....unless they went to the same school.
All is missing is the lip ring and cell phone attached to his ear and he could be the kid down the street...
A young John McCain?
They may have a good deal right ‘ here; but suspect he looked a little less ordinary than this modeling.
They should look for his barber. . .
Yeah. 7,500 years isn't that long ago in terms of looks.
If I could go back in time...
...and encounter people who look like people I see each day...
How would they react to me? With curiosity? Would they tear me to pieces just cuz?
I’m fascinated by the practice but agree with you on accuracy. Most of these models are just guesses.
yep.. he sure looks better than the Occupy Wall Street crowd.
He looks like the lead singer(?) from Pantera...
Deformity
Ms Barbers work revealed that the Viste Boy had scaphocephaly (boat-head), a congenital deformity which makes the skull long and narrow. She left the modelled head hairless to show this.
Perhaps a lot cleaner too!
No way he was raised eating sheep’s heads.....
Did they find an electric head shaver with him? None of these recreations ever look much like the person. He looks like Shrek to me.
Ping.
