(Aug. 28, 2011. NY, NY.) The internet sensation known as “Looter Guy,” famous for steeling beer during Hurricane Katrina, hoped to find an equal opportunity on the streets of New York during Hurricane Irene. But in the end Irene disappointed Looter Guy, who concluded, “This just ain't good lootin' weather.”
When this reporter caught up with Looter Guy, he had already abandoned his most recent looting attempts and retreated to his Section 8 housing in the Bronx. Looter Guy (who refused to give his real name, but goes by the nickname “Momo”) was displaced from New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Looter Guy used his FEMA relief funds to relocate to New York after brief stays in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Looter Guy turned away from his 108-inch plasma television long enough to declare, “I like New York better anyway. There’s more free stuff here.”
When asked to compare Katrina and Irene, Looter Guy insisted there was no comparison. For example, Looter Guy explained, “In Katrina, I could just float my loot down the street in the high water. That’s a lot easier than carrying loot. This morning, I couldn’t find no high water.” Looter Guy went on: “In New Orleans the cops ran away or ignored us. But this morning, I saw 20 cops in 5 blocks. You can’t be taxin’ the man when there’s so many cops around.” Looter Guy concluded, “I’m not a morning person, anyway.”
When asked about his occupations and pastimes since Katrina, Looter Guy said, “I’m a looter. I was raised a looter. I’ll always be a looter.” He elaborated, “A good looter knows to wait for the right moment: a hurricane, a blackout, a riot…You gotta know when to loot and when to sit. Today, I tried to loot, but it didn’t work out. So, today I’m drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon.
When asked about his future plans, Looter Guy smiled. “There’s a good future in looting. These days, everybody’s doing it. Look at me. I’m famous. People see me on the street and want to shake my hand. Who knows? Someday I might be president.”

Tell Looter Guy to get in line, there’s already a Looter Guy in the presidency.
