Don't like Perry? How about promoting your candidates positives?
8/27/11 | Listenhillary

We are adults and most on FR are very intelligent persons. I think we can decide if a candidate is right for us.

How about stop repeating the same Gardasil, Texas corridor, immigration stories over and over and over. Most have seen them by now if they have been paying attention. Most have judged the stories and condemn Perry to hell for them or they think that a president just might have different priorities than a state governor.

Screaming at us in all caps isn't going to change any minds. FR isn't the entire universe of voters. We are a very small pool of voters. If you're hell bent on trashing a candidate, it is likely that your efforts are wasted trying to persuade FR posters to change their minds about a candidate. Start standing out by the road with a sign telling your horror stories, pestering people in restaurants and buying billboards and advertising in newspapers and TV. You will have much more impact.

If you insist on cherry picking the negatives, can we do the same to you reviewing every decision and action that you have taken in your life? How would that work out for you? Honestly showing everything you have done, could you withstand the scrutiny?

I realize some of you insist that we are making a horrible mistake. The primary isn't until next year. Stop screaming. OK?

I distinctly recall an interview with Senator Obama in about early 2007 - when asked if he would be a candidate for President he said “NO” he was a newly elected Senator and did not have the experience needed to run for President. Your concern over Perry’s saying he’d serve 4 years when re-elected is not a concern to anyone other than a committed Perry adversary — it certainly wouldn’t be an issue should he win the nomination.

Drywall hangers in Southern California make about $20 an hour. Whoever said they make $20 a day has no idea what they are talking about.

I call 'em as I see 'em. Every time I go to the airport in summer months those poor slobs are out there picking onions. I didn't even know we grew onions in Texas.

I know they do construction, too. Piss-poor construction.

Send your teenagers to Texas. There are plenty of jobs for them here!

We need a 21st century version of Ike’s Operation Wetback. Then we need to put US business owners who hire illegals in prison. We’d be rid of the vermin in five years.

Yep I constantly hear these stories but have never found an illegal that will work for $20 a day here in So Cal...and if anyone can hook me up I'll pay them twice that to trim my trees!!...and a finders fee!

If you live in Texas, the odds are probably 90% plus your house was roofed by ILLEGALS. They make MUCH more than minimum wage !!

That’s certainly how it is supposed to be, but like everything else, illegals seem to wiggle in where they aren’t supposed to. Did you read the article? Remember the controversy in 2003 when one of the first soldiers killed in Iraq was an illegal from Mexico? I didn’t make the rules and don’t think it’s right. I’m just giving you the facts. I thought everyone knew this here.

We don’t need to deport them.... simply stop giving them free tuition, free health care, food stamps, etc. Create a tamper proof ID/driver’s license... hold employers accountable... and tax the wiring of money to foreign countries by a painful rate. A high percentage would head South and self-deport if the gravy train was derailed!

That's the problem, you see things wrongly. Further, you embarrass yourself by saying things that are so obviously untrue they are laughable. $20 a day to hang drywall? Did you see that while driving to the airport?

You're not helping your cause here, you're hurting it. You're proving to all that you have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. It really does shed light on why you would support a RINO like Perry -- because you are uninformed and clueless. Those are classic characteristics of a liberal.

Like I said Sarah has over 20 years in politics + she was a governor with power unlike Perry who has none. T-paw had a lower unemployment rate then Perry.

The 'like I said' angle doesn't really count when your initial assertion was wrong.

Being Mayor of Wasilla is not relevant experience to be President of the United States. Being Governor of Alaska is. There's no other President that was measured based on their role as a small town mayor. It's just not done, and you can't be upset when people don't recognize it for any given candidate as a valid resume point. Being governor, on the other hand, is universally accepted as the best qualification.

Speaking of which, but this isn't the 1970s. The governor of Texas is no longer a powerless position. Clearly, Perry has been able to exert some influence that people have liked and have not liked. Furthermore, the very problem we're in is due to the government trying to do too much. Knowing the limited role of government is a feature, not a bug.

To be fair, Rick wasn’t pushing paper and exactly stoking the fire himself, before he kicked the door in for politics. Did you catch the photo of what Rick was doing at 22, as opposed to what Barack was doing at 22? Rick was smokin’ our big winged ones across the skies in the military. Obama was smoking pot. You might be interested in just where Rick flew. Check it out.

The office of the governor in Texas is divided with the legislature. Not since LBJ has a governor wielded power like Rick Perry. He packed every Texas department with Republicans at the helm, which left him with no serious opposition and presiding over a state with no democrat in elective office anywhere in Texas. Now, talk to me about the Republican legacy left in Alaska. We are actually talking about Texas, a state who dwarfs Alaska in population. Contrast and comparison between the two are near laughable and will never be used in the campaigns because of that. Sorry, but the facts are what they are and anybody who says different doesn’t have a clue about Texas political power, no matter whose campaign they are coming from, or wishing for.

Norm, you don't have to behave like that. I'm willing to listen and have a grown-up conversation with you if you are interested.

I'm "just saying" she doesn't have a very long record. I'm saying if she did have a long record, she would have a few mistakes along the way we could all carp on.
