Just came from a Rock’n’Roll Restaurant where a ten year old student of mine was involved in a Recital.

He played guitar on three songs by The WHO!

This has been an awesome week of “Validation” for me.

Last Sunday a student of mine had a part in a local opera.

Tonight the ten year old played songs from MY good old days.

And tomorrow night I am going to a great Jazz club in Ft Lauderdale to hear yet another student and his own jazz trio.

I kind of needed that this week too.

Welfare Check
A guy walked into the local welfare office to pick up his check. He marched straight up to the counter and said, “Hi. You know..., I just HATE drawing welfare. I’d really rather have a job.”

The social worker behind the counter said, “Your timing is excellent. We just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a Chauffeur and bodyguard for his beautiful daughter. You’ll have to drive around in his 2011 Mercedes-Benz CL, and he will supply all of your clothes. “Because of the long hours, meals will be provided. You’ll also be expected to escort the daughter on her overseas holiday trips. This is rather awkward to say but you will also have as part of your job assignment to satisfy her sexual urges as the daughter is in her mid-20’s and has a rather strong sex drive.”
The guy, just plain wide-eyed, said, “You’re bull corning’ me!”

The social worker said, “Yeah, well ... You started it.”

Ponderings for Idle Moments

- Whose cruel idea was it for the word “lisp” to have an “s” in it?

- Since light travels faster than sound, isn’t that why some people appear bright until you hear them speak?

- How come abbreviated is such a long word?

- If it’s zero degrees outside today and it’s supposed to be twice as cold tomorrow, how cold is it going to be?

- Since Americans throw rice at weddings, do Asians throw hamburgers?

- Why are they called apartments, when they’re all stuck together?

- Why do banks charge you a “non-sufficient funds fee” on money they already know you don’t have?

- If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to see it, do the other trees make fun of it?

- When two airplanes almost collide why do they call it a near miss?? It sounds like a near hit to me!!

- Do fish get cramps after eating?

Gathering Chickens

The farmer’s son was returning from the market with the crate of chicken’s his father had entrusted to him, when all of a sudden the box fell and broke open. Chickens scurried off in different directions, but the determined boy walked all over the neighborhood scooping up the wayward birds and returning them to the repaired crate. Hoping he had found them all, the boy reluctantly returned home, expecting the worst.

“Pa, the chickens got loose,” the boy confessed sadly, “but I managed to find all twelve of them.”

“Well, you did real good, son,” the farmer beamed. “You left with seven.”

Lawyers on a Plane

An airliner was having engine trouble, and the pilot instructed the cabin crew to have the passengers take their seats and get prepared for an emergency landing.

A few minutes later, the pilot asked the flight attendants if everyone was buckled in and ready.

“All set back here, Captain,” came the reply, “except the lawyers are still going around passing out business cards.”

An Inscription Problem

According to the Knight-Ridder News Service, the inscription on the metal bands used by the U.S. Department of the Interior to tag migratory birds has been changed.

The bands used to bear the address of the Washington Biological Survey, abbreviated, “Wash. Biol. Surv.” until the agency received the following letter from an Arkansas camper:

“Dear Sirs: While camping last week I shot one of your birds. I think it was a crow. I followed the cooking instructions on the leg tag and I want to tell you it was horrible.”

Master Craftsman
August 13, 2011

When my wife and I were engaged, her dad gave us a special wedding present. As a watchmaker and jeweler, he made our wedding rings. To make my wedding band, Jim used gold scraps left over from resizing other rings—scraps that were seemingly without much value. But in the hands of this craftsman, those pieces became a thing of beauty that I cherish to this day. It is amazing what a master craftsman can do with what others might view as useless.

That is also how God works in our lives. He is the greatest Master Craftsman of all, taking the wasted pieces and broken shards of our lives and restoring them to worth and meaning. The prophet Jeremiah described this when he compared God’s work to that of a potter working clay: “The vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make” (Jer. 18:4).

No matter what messes we have made of our lives, God can remold us into vessels that are good in His eyes. As we confess any sin and submit ourselves in obedience to His Word, we allow the Master to do His redemptive work in our lives (2 Tim. 2:21). That is the only way for the pieces of our brokenness to be made whole and good once again.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way!
Thou art the Potter, I am the clay;
Mold me and make me after Thy will,
While I am waiting, yielded and still. —Pollard

Broken things can become blessed things
if you let God do the mending.

Read: Jeremiah 18:1-10

The vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter. —Jeremiah 18:4

“Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of God’s might. Put on the whole armor of God.
Ephesians 6:10,11

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men
on it were able to swim to a small, desert-like island.

The two survivors, not knowing what else to do, agreed that they had no
other recourse but to pray to God. However, to find out whose prayer was
more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay
on opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man
saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat
its fruit. The other man’s parcel of land remained barren.

After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife.
The next day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman
who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the island, there
was nothing.

Soon, the first man prayed for a house, clothes, more food. The next day,
like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man still
had nothing.

Finally, the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife could
leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of
the island. The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to
leave the second man on the island. He considered the other man unworthy
to receive God’s blessings, since none of his prayers had been answered.

As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven
booming, “Why are you leaving your companion on the island?”

“My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed for them,”
the first man answered. “His prayers were all unanswered and so he does
not deserve anything.”

“You are mistaken!” the voice rebuked him. “He had only one prayer, which
I answered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my
blessings.”

“Tell me,” the first man asked the voice, “what did he pray for that I
should owe him anything?”

“He prayed that all your prayers be answered.”

For all we know, our blessings are not the fruits of our prayers alone,
but those of another praying for us.

The burial service for the elderly woman climaxed with a massive clap of thunder, followed by a bolt of lightning, accompanied by even more thunder. “Well,” said her husband to the shaken pastor when it ended, “she’s there.”

And by the way, I didn’t know you had been in the hospital again but sure am glad you’re out and feeling pretty good. My prayers, and I’m sure others, are rising toward heaven every day and will continue!! May God Bless you and your family!

Dear FRiends, I just Want to Thank you Again for your Kind Posts and Prayers about my Mother-in-Law; she has been Released from the Hospital, and is Back Home! She has Little, if Any, Negative Residual Effects of the Stroke, so my Heart is Very Thankful for that. Our Savior's Grace has been with her in Wonderful Ways; 'Praise Him for His Excellent Greatness!' (Ps.140:2) I'm Thankful for His Lovingkindness, and Praise Him that His Mercies are New Every Morning. A Wonderful Lord is ours!
