Went to my doctor for the first time in awhile and got some bad news. My A1C blood sugar was almost 12 and my blood pressure averaged about 190/110. They wanted to admit me right then and there, but instead gave me a shopping bag full of medications. Since my wife had her stroke I haven't really been taking care of myself and now it's come to a head. If I don't do a complete 180 I'll be dead before the year is out. I have committed to mall walking (exercising) seven days a week for 30 minutes a day and cutting my carbs and sugars drastically. Please pray for me or think of me as I try to save my own life. Thanks!

I’m going to pray that God will give you the sense not to take any of those “medications,” they will kill you faster than any disease will!
You can be in proper health is a month or so on the right diet.

Depression is like a cancer. We've all had plenty of items about which to be depressed, both from socio-economic factors that affect us all and from the trials of life. The election of the current President was, for many of us, a dagger in the heart of our patriotism, all that we love about our country and countrymen. You've clearly faced your share of the latter type, the trials of life, and I'm very sorry about your wife.
Do you have the resolve to do this? Do you have some hope on the horizon? I think there is some, but it takes some faith to see it. Faith is the substance of what isn't yet seen.
I'm right there with you, in a way... I need to take better care of myself too. FWIW, you are like a family member...
Blessings to you for your wife. Take good care, I pray everyday that I will not have a stroke but it is in my family.
God Bless her and you.
You can do it.
You most definitely have my prayers! Please take care of yourself.
Kathy, if you haven’t already, please use Logan’s ping list.
You can do it! Get that A1C down pronto.I know it isnt easy I’ve been a type 1 since I was a child but it is something you have to do.It will be ok just do it.
Hang in there 2ndDiv! You are one of the very best Freepers, you always have stuff posted when I have insomnia.
But, maybe I better be missing you in the wee hours, you need to GET YOUR REST and TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF!
But, I must say this, be optimistic, those drugs are really wonder drugs. Hubby had a brush with some bad news like this about 1 1/2 years ago, blood sugar awful, blood pressure through the roof, etc.
The drugs got his numbers improved pdq.
I read the “South Beach” diet book and the author (sorry, can’t remember his name right now, but he is an MD) said that the anti-cholesterol drugs were amoung the greatest drugs ever developed. That the diet needed to really bring down cholesterol was so awful nobody could really stand to be on it, and the drugs work pretty much miracles.
Exactly! If 30 minutes is too much try several 10 minutes during the day. Also try standing up more often rather than sitting.Another thing you can do is grab a few cas from the kitchen 2 the same weight and when you do sit to watch TV put one in each hand and move them.

Hahah! Yes :)
I live at the top of Mount Milton, which is quite a change from the soup bowl of New Orleans.
There’s three hills that descend from my house, the last being very nicely steep.
The feeling I got from initially slowly walking up them, then to walking at a good pace, and finally running up them made it to where walking on flat land didn’t seem like exercise at all.
I swear, I’ll never forget these 3 simple hills. I’ve changed my life on them.
God Bless you, Chong :)
Try to give up bread as much as possible and substitute no-salt matso crackers instead. Make a sandwich with them, spread a little butter and fill with low sodium turkey slices and lettuce, a slice of low-fat cheese if doctor allows.
NO honey he is a diabetic and can not have it.Tea is good but either use a substitute or learn to drink it without anyhing in it.
No silly you I have been around since 2005 with the same name. I had terrible, super high BP numbers back then now I move and not sit and BP numbers are that this week.
Keep movingl
YOU WILL BE IN OUR PRAYERS!
Encouraging story. Thanks. Only our minds limit us.
Running in the summer heat/humidity in FL? What does your doctor say about that? I heard walking on a sandy beach is the best place to walk.
Well, there are now 177 replies, so, I’m sure you’ve received PLENTY of diet advice, and 51 is WAY TOO young (my hubby is 51!) So...prayers up, and remember..in about 3 months, YOU have two million dollars to raise for President Palin! ;)
