The last thing you should do when you're already deep in debt is to apply for another credit card.
It's wrong for people and it's wrong for nations.
Printing money only works if you have confidence in the government backing it, and it's eroding quickly.

My reading of Ammendment XIV Sec. 4a, is that the President is obligated by his vow to uphold the Constitution to ensure the government does not default on its debt (else the Federal debt would not be beyond reproach and unquestionable). IF the debt ceiling isn't raised, the President must take whatever measures are necessary to ensure a default on the Federal debt does not occur.
