It's with the advertisers. And I'm referring to the talk radio good guys. I wouldn't expect any better from the Dims (if you could even find a show of their's on the air to know who the advertisers were.)
I'm not going to mention any particular shows.
One company you commonly you commonly hear advertising is doublemyspeed.com. This company (like mycleanpc.com) is an ourtight SCAM! Your computer can be completely free of any malware, and if you download the product, in order to scam you into purchasing their worthless "cleaner," they will note dozens of problems. Worse, they may download malware of their own onto your computer, making your computer worse than before.
Another advertiser is incomeathome.com. While not a scam, it is just your typical MLM/pyramid scheme type operation in which 99.9% of the people involved will either lose money (maybe a lot) or make so little that it is worth no where near the time and effort put in.
It just concerns me that people might have more faith in these companies because of where they hear the advertisements.
I'll only mention those 2 for now. There are some others that bother me, too.
The Ad Council advertises on Rush. Some of those ads jsut don’t add up; especially the ones that demagogue, as if nanny knows what’s best.
I have a Sony radio I bought over 25 years ago that still works, and I bet it cost nowhere near as much as the Bose. ;-)
That’s entirely possible; however, even if my Bose stopped working today, I’d contend that I got my money’s worth and start shopping for a new one. The sound quality is superb, and I’ve had it configured in a number of different ways that over the years has probably saved my quite a few $$ in various rack stereo and entertainment center components...and that’s not even bringing up how much space it saves by virtue of its compact size.
As you have noted, many of the “products” advertised are scams and are simply designed to separate the listener from his/her money.
You rarely see such garbage advertised on, say, a baseball broadcast or on a music channel. But they're all over conservative radio. I find that both puzzling and sad
Buyer beware of course, but I do thing the station and the radio personality have some responsibility to their listeners to do at least some checking on their advertisers.
Many times I have heard the host himself telling his listeners how great the product is, when a simple Google search will show how corrupt the product is.
Sure, the customer should do the Google search, but don't the hosts have some moral duty also?
You are exactly right. I know when to listen and NOT to listen. Rush's content is around 35-36 minutes per hour. I subscribe to Rush 24/7 and download after the entire show is over. However....I deeply resent Rush's LIVE commercials. Around Mother's Day, Christmas, etc. he does at least four per show. I thought if one subscribes you get a commercial-free airing of the show. This is not the case. No matter what, you are subject to B and G Auto Parts, identity theft ads, Heritage Foundation, Pro Flowers, cherries---whatever. I don't begrudge his selling commercial time, but I thought his his $60.00/year subscribers could avoid that.
Simple ..... it’s a $1400.00 shirt
The worst thing about these companies is they are providing a service anyone can pretty much do themselves in seconds for no cost at all. Download free programs like Spybot, Malwarebytes, CCleaner, Avast Home, AVG Home, etc, and you can keep your PC clean for no money at all.
My biggest issue with the commercials on popular talk radio shows is there just seems to be so many of them. It honestly feels like each 15 minute segment is eaten up by 8 minutes of commercials or commercial lead-ins. Add in the time spent on news updates and it really feels like these programs are one giant commercial with some commentary thrown in. And I HATE this new twist on commercials where the hosts actually talk about the product as if it were part of the show. It just feels so deceptive.
Anyway, the system is what it is and I know they have to sell advertising space to make money. Just wish they'd maybe charge a higher price for LESS commercials. Perhaps if the shows spent less time on commercials more people would listen - which would justify the higher cost for the fewer advertisers.
Yeah, I could see how that would be annoying. You’re paying for commercial free, then you get “Folks, let me tell you about Lifelock.” Yeah, the whole reason he is on the radio is to put some attractive content between the ads, but a subscriber shouldn’t have to hear it.
I doubt if 1 person out of 20 who have used those services would use them again, especially in the case of Internet Briefcase.
| Same with me. Only if I'm already doing something useful--driving, washing the car, cooking chicken, etc.
Been listening to Levin that way for years. His pod casts are 95% commercial free. Other shows also have pod casts but most charge something for them. I use to listen to mike church on sirius but budget cut the service.
Safelite Auto Glass- “Awwwwwwhhhhhh, Mary was on her way to work when all of a sudden- whammo! a rock cracked her windshield.”
What's wrong with talk radio is what they do NOT discuss!
When was the last time any of these talk show hosts plainly and firmly called Democrats ( especially Obama and his minions) what they really are: COMMUNISTS! I think if I hear the phrase “Radical Leftist” one more time I will need to stop the car to throw up.
My husband and I were out shopping yesterday and I turned off Rush. Honestly, how many ways can a person say the economy sucks and its Obama’s fault?
Almost **never** discussed are ways to shut down the godless government schools that are corrupting our nation's future voters, abortion, the homosexual bullies that force people out of jobs or force their indoctrination on on children in schools, or the morally degenerate jetsam and flotsam found on the airways.
And....What really ticks me off is the silence about Obama’s social security number and his latest FORGERY that he calls a birth certificate. I can't stand it. These yappers are such phonies it disgusts me.
Sean would tout his personal use of a cemetary plot if they paid him to do it. Anybody who has written more books than he has read isn't someone Conservatives should pay attention to.
Regards,
TS
Nice Post and good subject!
Too All - If you find yourself *ADDICTED* to conservative yak raydee-oh, (& TeeVee) - Just Turn It OFF!
You can do it!
Go Internet, Go FR!
I love Rush but it hurts me to hear him advertising for that company where you send in your used laptop or cell phone and receive $150.00!
There's some truth in the observation that 'the Conservative Party is the Stupid Party': not that conservative = stupid, but that often stupid = conservative. That's the target audience.
“Loud, obnoxious audio spaghetti”
Heh, heh, that’s classic! Never heard radio foodfights described as “audio spaghetti” before!
Anyway, since the subject is talk radio pet peeves, mine include overrepeated 800 numbers (the ads where they say it maybe twice and then provide a website seem to appeal to a more intelligent clientele).
Or where the host plugs stuff. The prerecorded ads can be shut off but the host hijacks your time this way.
And that Safelite windshield ad, six or eight times in one hour?
Then there’s a week of substitute hosts so the real host can butt out and go play golf with his rich pals and then spend half of the following week’s shows describing his fun from the week before.
