Seve Ballesteros, the charismatic Spanish golfer who won the Masters twice and the British Open three times and helped propel Europes rise in the Ryder Cup competition with the United States, died early Saturday at his home in northern Spain, where his struggle with brain cancer had gained wide attention in the sports world. He was 54.

RIP
He was a great golfer. RIP.
The first time I ever heard of him, Golf Digest had his picture on the cover with the title, “Can this Teenager Win the Masters?”
I follow sports, golf closely around the time of the Masters. I hadn’t heard about this.
Thanks for posting this.
RIP Seve.
Not only one of the best golfers ever to pick up a club, but a great ambassador for the game as well.
RIP :(
Ironically, there is an OTC chemical that might have saved his life, which is being researched right now in Canada.
Called DCA (Dichloroacetic Acid), it has shown some tantalizing effects at shrinking and deactivating metastatic tumors of some kinds, usually in combination with chemotherapy (that by itself is seen as futile). The drug itself has very limited side effects, and can cross the “blood-brain barrier”, so may be particularly useful against brain cancers.
The down side is that it is “public domain”, non-patentable, so the drug companies aren’t interested in investing $1b that they can’t earn back to get approval in the US. So research is being financed by private individuals and other benefactors in Canada.
Another down side is more typical, that it does not work on all cancers, especially those of the GI tract. But very few drugs work on all cancers.
A sad day in the golfing world.
RIP Seve.
May God receive his soul.
RIP Seve
Seve was as much as Ambassador to golf and he was a player of golf.......a one off unmatched passionate man who walked the walk.....God bless Seve, his family, and his fans.
“But, he was the example of competitiveness and honored the game.”
Tough guy, tough competitor...he’ll be missed in this game.
Rafael Nadal, the world’s #1-ranked men’s tennis player, said he was inspired by Seve’s success to become the best tennis player in the world. Now that’s true inspiration.

*Bowing to let the Master play through*
Some people just make the mundane world just a little better to live in. Seve Ballesteros was one of them.
Been feeling pretty mortal about us 50 somethings.
Pissez me off.
RIP Seve. This man singlehandedly revived European golf. He could be prckly, but what geniuses aren’t? Fairways and greens!
