In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
vestige \VESS-tij\ noun
a mark or visible sign left by something that existed before; also: a minute remaining amount
Example sentence:
Viaducts, walls, and ancient baths remain as vestiges of the Roman occupation of Britain.
Extra example: "Outside her home flies a large American flag, but inside there are vestiges of her native France, with paintings all round of the City of Lights and its grand boulevards and striking architecture." -- From an article in the Gloucester Daily Times (Massachusetts), March 3, 2011
Did you know?
"Vestige" is derived via Middle French from the Latin noun "vestigium," meaning "footstep, footprint, or track." Like "trace" and "track," "vestige" can refer to a perceptible sign made by something that has now passed. Of the three words, "vestige" is the most likely to apply to a tangible reminder, such as a fragment or remnant of what is past and gone. "Trace," on the other hand, may suggest any line, mark, or discernible effect ("the snowfield is pockmarked with the traces of caribou"). "Track" implies a continuous line that can be followed ("the fossilized tracks of dinosaurs").
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Here is my example with today's WFTD:
At least some states are trying to revive the vestiges of the Second Amendment.
Restaurant & Car Carry Rules Fix (SB17) and Restoration of Rights (SB61)(OH)
Self-protection legislation clears State House(PA)
Proposals to Loosen Maine's Gun Laws Draw Opposition
No pushing at the door please!
Happy Humpday Everybody!
Only days left until BO's replacement is sworn in.
Get to class you slackers! I've opened a new classroom, but Dave forgot to get the gradebook from xsmommy. So if you're looking for a grade you'll have to ping her. Secret Garden and Tioga are usually pretty generous with the plusses if you compliment their shapely legs, so you might try submitting your homework to them instead. My secret for getting extra plusses on my A+ from xs will remain a secret between me and her, so you're on your own if you want her to review your work.
I thought the vestige was the room where the priest put his robes on.
Obama went to Oxford and Cambridge
Princeton, Harvard and Yale; there’s no vestige
No trace he went there
Or, in fact, anywhere
He’s no Lincoln, not Reagan, nor Coolidge
Perhaps his robes are the last vestige of the Jewish Priest’s finery?
Hope everyone has finished the final vestiges of their tax returns, due on Friday!
(oh, and when I read quickly the exhortation for no pushing at the door, and it’s hump day...my eyes switched the words, and for a second I thought it said “no humping at the door”. Ouch.
I am off to see the neurosurgeon to see if there are any remaining vestiges of disc problems to my lumbar. Except for lifting up one of the twins in church Sat/night I am doing fine. I got the pain back that night, but it is mostly gone again. I am thinking I will get a sentence of 3 months physical therapy. I hope, that’s all. BBL
The last vestige of American life will begin this evening when Obama announces his proposal to tax the ever living hell out of every single thing he can frikkin' think of so he may continue spending like a teen-aged girl with Daddy's credit cards.
I found her little vestiges in the snow.
I found her little vestiges in the snoooow.
Bless that happy day that Nellie lost her way,
‘Cause I found her when the snow was on the ground.
I like the Marty Robbins version best:

are you guys still over in the Italy? and if so, how does tax prep work when you are out of country?
I thought recent reports have indicated it is a repository for e-coli and other bacteria, when there are large amounts, and can be processed out thereby preventing even more serious infections.
At least that is the reason I was told when I was diagnosed with “chronic appendicitis.” Still have the thing because “we want to leave it in as long as possible.” Kinda unnerving for when I go into the jungle and there isn’t a fast way to the hospital, actually.
I know that you are in the medical profession and I’m really questioning, not challengin.
Taxes are due on Monday the 18th this year. Some made up holiday in DC that’s on the 16th is falling on the 15th this year cause the 16th is a Saturday. So everyone gets till Monday.
So, I have a dilemma. Do I watch the Penguins playoff opener or Obama’s speech? LOL
Feeling any better?
Sheryl Crow could make do with that.
