I have a suggestion for the software. How about a box that pops up when I'm posting that says something to effect of:
Attention, you've been clicking from thread to thread, and you're about to reply to a topic that has been dead for 3 years, are you sure you want to look like an idiot?
I for one would find it useful.
:)
have you never heard of the . . . . . . . . .
UNDEAD THREAD ??!!!
There’s always hope that they can be revived; some of us try at any rate.
BREATHING NEW LIFE INTO UNDEAD THREADS SINCE 1946. . .
TWINKIE
Those would do, but this place had their own.
Right now, I would choose all of them!
I like that, but even better, would be if the software automatically returned you to the post you just replied to. I'm always having to make a mental note of the post number I'm replying to, so that I can quickly find my place in the thread again.
I used to post at forums that had that feature, and found it to be a real time saver.
Every now and then I’ll get a reply to a post I left five or more years ago on a long-dead thread. It is baffling. I can’t even figure out how that happens. My “bookmarked” FR page is the one with the latest posts, so I continually scroll only the latest posts and therefore (presumably) only the latest threads.
...Unless some moron inexplicably posts to a really old thread.
Do tell, but I know how it happens. Some folks will do searches on topics that interest them. They find a thread, and don't bother to note that it's been dead for years, and comment anyway.
I got a response from a long dead thread just the other night. I had to click on my original post to figure out what the heck the poster was even replying to. Even then, I had to read along in the thread for a minute to regain my bearings on the topic. Weird...
How about something really simple like a link to the list of banned sites from the posting screen. And there is nothing more frustrating than typing in a whole article just to get a message that the site is banned. One should be able to check that before going through all the work.
I can't believe some sites, like Yahoo and Politico that get lots of comments, don't come up with a simple duplicate post scrubber. You often see the same copy/paste job posted dozens of times.
The could copy Craigslist, that won't even let you post an ad if it is too similar to another one you post.
lol that’s a new one
How about a message that pops up and sez...
“You are a serial poster of threads that have been posted more than nine times in the past six hours. You have never done a search and you have never donated to FR”
Not talkin’ about you.
Just sayin’....

OK, you’re an idiot! (Glad to oblige!)

In fact, I ought to zap into the future to reply to this one.
But perhaps I shouldn't reveal the existence of this technology...
Now that will be funny.
Remember....KEYWORDS are your friend....
Here’s one for the not-a-ping list
I'm gonna have to that more often to see if people notice....
