Greek archaeologists on Friday said they had discovered five long-lost friezes from the 2,500-year-old Parthenon in the walls of the ancient Acropolis.
The friezes, which had been taken away to be used as building materials for the ancient Acropolis which at one point served as a fortress, were located along its southern walls by a weather balloon camera, officials at the Culture Ministry said.
The fragments were detected by air during a vertical scan of the walls of the Acropolis by the Culture Ministry, where a total of 2,250 photographs were taken.
The Parthenon has suffered extensive damage over the centuries and archaeologists believed many of the friezes adorning the southern part of the temple were destroyed after it was bombed during a 17th century Venetian siege of Ottoman-held Athens or taken.
Most of the interior walls of the temple, apart from the west end, were destroyed during the bombing, bringing many of the friezes and metopes down with them.

The Elgin Marbles, sculptures from the frieze of the Parthenon dating back to 5th century BC, were purchased in 1816 for 35,000 Pounds Sterling. They have been a source of controversy for many years - recently attempts have been made to reunite the pieces in possession of the Britsh Museum with those in Athens to be the centerpiece of The New Acropolis Museum.

Your denseness on the topic of the Parthenon Frieze is on display with a comment like that.

Not only that. Your comment is arrogantly wrong. You know as if you were to claim that 2 plus 2 equalled 5.
Stealing other people’s property cultural or otherwise is immoral and illegal.
Adding insult to injury is holding on to it for monetary profit. For the Brits to hold on to looted property is heinous and shameful.
It wasn’t looted.
One cannot sell another’s property without the permission of the owner. Elgin sold what he had obtained illegally to parliament which since them knows full well that it illegally holds the frieze.
The Brits should be forced to immediately return the Frieze and pay restitution for what they have done.
Apologies are unecessary when they come from crimimals.
