MILWAUKEE One of the men featured in a Visa credit card television commercial for having never missed a Super Bowl has died at age 79.
Though he wasn't able to make it to Texas, Bob Cook watched from his Milwaukee area hospital bed as his beloved Green Bay Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers to win the 45th Super Bowl earlier this month.

At least he got to see his beloved Packers win the Super Bowl before he died.
That he did
One of the individuals in those commercials basically bragged about missing births and other important family events and his willingness to miss more in his pursuit of his hobby. That individual - I think not the deceased one - came across as a pretty vile excuse for a human being.
Never watched a Super Bowl member still alive at 61.
Yes, I had the same reaction. What a total ass. Missing births and important family events to watch millionaires clobber each other.
Yeah, that guy certainly came off as a rather selfish boob to me. Really too bad Bob could not have attended his last Super Bowl, with his team in it and winning it!
So long, Bob. Happy for yer Packers!
He did not say he missed those things like weddings, and births to be at the Super Bowl, he said he has missed some of those things but had not missed a Super Bowl, not the same thing at all.
Talk about hyperparsing. Even under your exacting analysis, the reality is that when the chips were down he had more resolve to fly across the country to see Superbowls than to be there for his family.
... he says about a man that he never once met in his life and knows absolutly nothing about. There are a lot of ways to be a total ass.
As a Steeler fan, I can take some pleasure in our loss, that this guy got to watch his team win. My elderly Mother didn’t quite last long enough to get to see her beloved Steelers win on February 1st, 2009, less than three months after she passed away. Watching the games and rooting for the home team brought her a good deal of happiness. I have video of her in the Hospice watching a Steeler game with her terrible towel and other paraphernalia, her arthritic hands barely able to hold onto them, but trying just the same. The Steelers did win the SB that season, but sadly she didn’t make it. She’d have loved that game! :)
Good for this fella and his family. Congratulations to the Packers!
Making the commercial jinxed the whole never missed a superbowl thing. Life’s funny that way.
He doesn’t “know nothing about” him. He actually has key information about him: that he is willing to go on national television to point out that he considers his hobby more important than his family. That’s a keypiece of knowledge.
MarineBrat, you are the epitome of a good sport. God bless you!
My statement was quite true. And being there for your family on the key days of their lives is indeed when the chips are down.
As if anyone close to this guy would schedule a wedding during Super Bowl week! I imagine his family is proud of and brags about his SB attendance record.
Who hasn’t missed a family wedding for a variety of reasons other than athletic events? You’d think from the criticism that he wasn’t there for his own child’s birth or didn’t go to his own daughter’s wedding because of Super Bowl. February’s such a big wedding month, of course. (well, there IS Valentine’s Day, but Super Bowl is long over before this holiday)
And babies have a way of coming in their own good time. Greatuncle Joe’s not being there at his birth won’t take a serious physical or emotional toll on the newborn.
.
He’s gonna miss one now.
