The Lions are finally recovering from the Matt Millen era. They improved in the 1990 under Wayne Fontes and “the General.” Millen took a team that missed being a playoff team by losing the last game of the season and made it the laughing stock of the NFL.

You’re team sucked. You’re still in denial. They lost and deserved to lose. They were the inferior team and it showed all game. I especially loved Troy super human getting beat so badly on that touchdown pass

I may be wrong, but it sure seems like Obama has a perfect record of supporting the eventual loser of upcoming sporting contests.

Starting with (not) getting the Olympics for Chicago. Remember that fiasco?

...and a spelling instructor to you. :-)

The city is one of the few (perhaps the only in the US) that has an 'h' at the end: Pittsburgh. When I lived there, the people were proud of that rather unique distinction. There was a period of time in the early 1900's when the 'h' was dropped from the official city name but it was restored thereafter.

Now maybe you and ReneeLynn can unite against me since a few of my posts have evidently touched a nerve. :-)

Thank you. I just love my team and nothing changes that. They weren’t expected to beat the Ravens, they weren’t expected to beat the Jets, but they did and they went to the big game. No Steelers fan will ever give up on the Steelers. Ever. I was a kid back in the days of Bradshaw and Greene, but I caught the love of the Steelers back then. THAT Steel Curtain is hard for any team to live up to. What a hell of a team that was. But our guys today played hard this season and pulled out some wins no one expected. I love em’ for that.

Most World Championships:

Green Bay Packers, 13

You are comparing apples to oranges. GB has won 4 Super Bowls.

No cheerleaders, terrible towels, and an 'H' at the end of your name.

Steeler fans sure are proud of weird things.

The AFC was insane this year.

Swap KC and the Chargers, and you’d have had the lineup of:

Chargers/Indy/Ravens/Jets/Pittsburgh/NE.

All of those teams were better than Green Bay, who was the class of the NFC.

6 point game hardly a spanking. But, you’re right. Steelers fans are die hard. We love our team win or lose. We just love them and we’re proud to be fans. No loss stops that pride.

Steeler fans sure are proud of weird things.

Especially a disproportionate number of Lombardi Trophies. Thank you very much.

We’re really proud that we don’t have cheerleaders. We don’t need them. When you’ve got the Towel you’ve got all you need.

Steeler fans sure are proud of weird things.

From my perspective, the pride in the Steelers came from decades of futility. I'm old enough to remember going to games at Forbes Field (a great baseball venue, not good at all for football) and later at Pitt Stadium (which made the Cotton Bowl seem like a palace in comparison). They used to open up the gates for free admission when the fourth quarter began because the game was typically a blowout by then.

Finally, things changed when Coach Chuck Noll came on the scene. The hope was that Terry Hanratty (from nearby Butler and a Notre Dame QB) would be the centerpiece of a renewed Black and Gold. Terry Bradshaw initially was reviled because of his southern accent and his frequent interceptions. Ultimately, Bradshaw emerged as the quarterback and a number of other pieces fell into place to create the dynasty of the 70's.

People in the region who were loyal to perennial losers were finally rewarded for their devotion. Here in North Texas, the parallels with the Rangers are similar.

You're one up on the Cowboys and 49ers, so it's not really 'disproportionate'.

Six Super Bowls is something to be proud of, but when I hear how proud Steeler fans are of are of towels and how Pittsburgh is spelled, I start to understand those Pittsburgh residents who explain that there's really nothing to get excited about except football.
