1. The Phaistos Disk is considered the most important example of hieroglyphic inscription from Crete. Discovered in 1903, both sides of the clay disc are covered with hieroglyphs arranged in a spiral zone, impressed on the clay when it was damp. Forty five different types of signs have been distinguished, of which a few can be identified with the hieroglyphs in use in the Proto- palatial period.
The Phaistos Disk is 15cm in diameter and believed to date from 1700BC. A double sided disk of fired clay, it is decorated with symbols on both sides, made by stamps or seals in a spiral pattern

Pfft.. the translation is EASY!
“Hi! My name is Ekros. I am a farmer. I have sheep. My wife is stupid. She spends all my money. I wish I was married to this sheep. She is my best friend. Also, I eat Olives. I am sick of Olives. Tomorrow is the Festival. I bet my wife will spend my money on buying useless Togas. Like she does not have 100 Togas already. I wonder if they will have Erkot the Magician at the Festival. Also, I hope the virgins don’t choose ME for the Human Sacrifice”
I love codes and ciphers. I’ve heard of half of mentioned ones, but Linear A and Crete disk are the only two worth keeping up with. There are many great books on codes and code breaking out there, and it’s great fun to develop one’s own coding system.

I suppose the Freeper secret hand shake came in at number 11.

What if it’s written in igpay atinlay?
I thought DNA would be numero uno.
They forgot Beta Crypt 3.
I think the Phaistos Disc and Linear A are of genuine concern, particularly the latter. Some special purpose modern code is not of any great interest.
I say a show on the Voynovich code and they pretty much exposed it as a fraud.
There are others of merit unnamed here like the language of Meroe, Etruscan, the Harrapan Hieroglyphs, etc.
One of these must explain why women want the toilet paper to hang with the wall, where it’s harder to grab. I sure haven’t figured it out.
Some of these are interesting but I would add quipas, the Crespi tablets and rongorongo.
Is this thread series?
