There was a time, maybe thirty or forty years ago, before cable TV and cell phones, where one man could be so impressive in his accomplishments and force of personality, he would almost universally be recognized as the coolest man in America. His field could range from medicine, science, sports, politics or entertainment. Since the advent of the internet, though, this is no longer possible. Who, in your opinion, was the last "coolest man in America"?
hiiiiiii boss
You FREEEP with your boss?
Wow! That is cool.
Cool in many of his movie roles,,,,Clint Eastwood.
Don Rickles?? ;)
It is ridiculous.
Newman had more cool in one earlobe that Namath had during his entire career!
Easy! Dean Martin! Men wanted to be Deano and women wanted to be with Deano. Great combo definition of cool. He always came across to me as a regular type guy...as regular as far as a star could be I guess. Now for ‘tough’ cool, I will go with Lee Marvin who WAS tough for real, and cool. Remember ‘M Squad’?
Cool to me is real life cool. Not actors or politicians or athletes.
The coolest men are the ones that have been fired on battle and came out on top. Or faced danger and stayed cool. How about Audie Murphy? Sgt. York fits the bill too.
Chuck Yeagar certainly is on the list.
And my dad. One of the coolest men ever. A rock.
The Marlboro man.
Nicholson? Never.
Always the aura of weirdness around him.
Oh please. Temporary east coast celebrity at best. Not cool in any enduring sense. I’d bet 75 percent of people under 25 don’t even know who he is.
Love Dean Martin
Is Tiger Woods who you have in mind?
So did most everyone not posted in jest on the entire thread.
Ted Williams
Nope. At that time, Joe Namath was considered the coolest man in America by almost every normal, red blooded American man and boy. And that was the last time in American history, when one man was considered as such.
The Saint, aka Simon Templar aka Roger Moore was incredibly cool. As was Patrick Mc Née, aka John Steed. was cool,
But Emma Peel was even cooler.
And Elvis completed his military tour of duty.
(Joe Namath is apparently the choice of the thread author - so I shall retire forthwith)
Liberty Valance is the coolest guy in America. It’s not well known, but he was on the grassy knoll with his Red Ryder BB rifle the day that JFK got whacked in Dallas.
It all sounds like TOO MUCH of a coincidence to those of us who know Liberty best.
I’m still laughing! This is hysterical!
