Just Briefed By VERY Senior Retired CIA Officer. "Egypt Is Possible/Probable Disaster For US"
Old proven source | Friends and Fiends

Posted on 01/28/2011 3:01:22 PM PST by MindBender26

As many of you know, am old network TV newsie. Just tapped former proven source, retired VERY senior CIA officer. No Hq paper-pusher type, he is the real deal, a highly successful very senior ME field operator. Retired as ES-4.

From an intel assesment stanspoint, he is a proven source, with access to information, extensive field work in the area, no reason to lie and has always given good data in past.

His assessment (in shorthand:)

1. If Egypt falls, disaster for US. Put succinctly; "the horse we bet all our life savings on may be about to drop dead in the backstretch."

2. If Egypt gmvt falls, radical Muslim Brotherhood will be the new power, totally.

3. If Egypt falls, Jordan and Saudi are in trouble, but not necessarily gone. Even Syria is not safe.

4. Although Muslim Brotherhood would take over, the cause of revolt is not religion but the lack of jobs, horrible standard of living. Saudi and Jordan citizens have somewhat better conditions, so might be saved.

5. Egyptian Army is the absolute key. If Army stays local, Mubarak may be safe. If they falter, he is absolute toast.

6. Problem is, Army does not like Mubarak. They loved Sadat, he was one of them, but they do not like Hosni.

7. If Egypt falls, biggest winners are Iran and Russia. Iran becomes big kid on block. Russia desperately needs crude oil prices to go up to help economy. They prosper at $90 barrel crude. This could create $220, $250 a barrel crude oil prices

8. Big loser? Surprisingly not Israel. Just more enemies... who all know Israel will take war nuc if necessary to save self.... but due to US aid, Egyptian Army has great American equipment.

9. Biggest loser #2; Western Europe

10. Biggest loser #1; USA. Oil prices cripple economy. Even worse, word in every diplomatic circle becomes "See what happens to America's friends."

Bottom line; possible/probable disaster for US

It took you 2 years to figure that out? The coup leaders put hussein in the white hut to destroy America. He and they are not supid, idiots etc - they are evil.

The American public is more interested in another dya and night of HD brainwashing on TV.

For all the Monday morning quarterbacks, what should we do to reverse this or protect our interests?

Step 1: get 42nd in the room and send 44th to a party.

Will be interesting to see Baraq running for re-election on 4 years of 10% unemployment and $5 gas.

Especially if he still won't let us drill.

Obama stated before he was elected he wanted to see gas prices higher than Europes.

Personally I think he wants to CRASH our economy, and then use civil unrest/economic upheavel as reasons to implement martial law and block an election in 2012.
Maybe a stretch to some, JMHO

There are those of us who remember Jimmy Carter's turn over of Iran to the mullahs. Obozo is FAR worse than Carter and we're headed for a major war in the ME. I joked with another correspondent that Israel may have to nuke Cairo, Damascus, and Tehran — soon.

Obozo and the rest of his worthless group of “community organizers” are way out of their league here. Hillary(!) has no clue at all.

Standby, America, those oil shortages and gas lines in 1973-1974 from the Arab oil embargo are going to look like a walk in the park. Will Obozo say to “drill baby, drill”? Not a chance.

How can you have smart diplomacy without smart diplomats? Does the Obama Administration even have a discernible or coherent foreign policy? I think we can boil down Obama's foreign policy to a very simple concept:

Anticipate nothing and then react badly when you're taken by surprise.

We're still paying for Jimmy Carter. We didn't need this as well.

Nice summary.

I think it’s actually got both, but I don’t think that’s as big a deal as one might think. First, it will very likely remain open no matter what. Second, it’s been closed before, usually because of war, and it’s a bigger problem for Europe and South West Asia.

Oh great, now you've gone and invited all the ANTIdisppies to tone in.

(But I do agree w/ you. It could turn the entire ME into an Islamic cauldron, and give Russia and Iran an extremely strong footing.)

'John Bolton thinks Egypt is headed for democracy, not sharia."

I watched two of his interviews on FNC today, and I don't think he came close to saying that. At best, I believe he thinks it's too soon to say what will happen, but he's concerned. He has a story at FNC.com...

AMB. JOHN BOLTON: Is Democracy Coming to Egypt at Last?

I did hear Michael Scheurer(sp?), the former CIA head of the Bin Laden Unit, say on Cavuto that he believes Mubarek can't survive, and an islamicist regime is a foregone conclusion, unavoidable.

Egypt falling under the nation of Islam would not be good for Christians nor for Israel. As such, it seems to be something 0zero the peace prize winner would welcome and probably facilitate...

The similarities between the progressive communists in the US and the Egyptian 'worker class' uprising and its associated community organizers and their methods is not lost on some observers. "Oppressed" community organizing birds of a feather tend to flock together against the "man" never missing any opportunity to employ useful idiots to exploit a problem and impose the "progressive" solution...

"Re 10, Egypt has virtually no oil, is on the Mediterranean, therefore impact to oil production and delivery negligible."

Oil production, no. Oil delivery, yes. They fully control the Suez. If the Suez becomes an unreliable shipping channel, it will play havoc with the oil market, and other commercial markets as well.

Egypt is not all that compatible with radical Islam. And if the OP’s logic holds, a revolution in Egypt would be a good thing for Russia. In that case, the instigators are probably not “believers” but typical unprincipled power seekers, and they’re being assisted by Russia and other nations that stand to benefit. Nations that have petroleum and that don’t sit there with their thumbs in their pipelines like we do.

As for 0bama, big egg on face. His opening act was to secure a lasting peace in the Middle East and not only has that not happened, but now they’re revolting in Egypt and Lord knows where next. Nice going, Barack.

Most oil tankers are too big for the Suez Canal.

In fact, the biggest loser would be Europe. Why? Because much of Europe's crude oil comes in through the Suez Canal, which would result in a cut off of oil supplies to Europe if Egypt falls into chaos. Most oil imported from the Middle East to the USA use the so-called Capesize ships that usually berth off the coast of Texas and Louisiana and deliver their cargoes using offshore terminals.
