Crow for one: ‘Microsoft’s Windows 7 will drive Mac market share below 5% by the end of 2010’
Mac Daily News ^ | Friday, December 31, 2010 - 09:42 AM EST

An iCal alarm popped up for us today. It said:

Mark Oct. 22 on your calendar. That's the day that Apple's classic 'I'm a Mac. I'm A PC' attack ads are going to cease to be humorous. Oct. 22 is, of course, the formal release date of Windows 7... Here's what I believe will happen: The Windows 7 launch will take those market-share gains Apple has seen over the past several years and make them disappear... Yes, the Mac has had a great run for the past couple of years. Gartner says Apple's share of the U.S. computer market for the third quarter amounted to 8.8 percent, up from 8.6 percent in the year-ago period. My bet is that market share is going to drop below 5 percent by the end of 2010... Windows 7 is a great product and Apple is going to feel the pain from it.Steven Burke, CRN, October 15, 2009

Let's check in with Gartner:

Whoopsie. Let's hope for Steven's sake that all he bet was his reputation. Not a big loss. And, Steven, Apple's feeling no pain unless it's from the strain of driving dump trucks full of cash to the bank 24/7/365.

Now, granted, while those are the latest numbers, they're not truly "the end of 2010," so we'll check in again in a few weeks when Gartner releases their numbers for calendar 4th quarter.

Of course, nobody sane expects Apple to go from 10.4% to under 5% in three months, but we're certainly not averse to serving crow twice.

Send your New Year's wishes to Steven here: steve.burke@ec.ubm.com

Maybe that one is better? I’m not sure. When you live as a cultist I guess your point of view on reality is quite skewed.

North American Statcounter

Looks to me as if the percentage of Macs in use in the US is about 12% to 12.5% on Statcounter... even better than the article was saying. Thanks for the link.

We're still waiting for your predicted quarterly losses for Apple... that was supposed to happen within a year of your prediction... When did you make that prediction???? Two years ago????

When don’t the Microsoft fan-boys fail in their predictions of doom for Apple?... iPod, Zune, iPhone, Vista, iPad, Windows 7, Android (not MS..but yeah), Windows phone...it’s always the same prediction.. “this will kill Apple”.

“Yea. It’s not like the article posted does any of that or anything.”

Heh. I’m not quite sure how this article contributes to news.

I was just wondering the other day what we used to do back in the dark ages when we did not have cell phones, computers, internet and instant communications of all sorts?

Well, as kids we played sports, some unorganised and unsupervised without adults. Like on a corner lot, sandlot, hell, even a street. We build forts and played army, cowboys and indians as well as tried a little Tarzan activities that likely ended up at the hospital for broken somethings.

Bicycles were the primary mode of transportation, no mom and the suv. We modded them, raced them, painted them and learned to fix their flats. Scate boards? Hell, we invented them with 2x4’s and old metal roller skates.

Stilts, I made some once that I had to sit on my folks flat top Mexican style house to get on em. Push carts, wooden go carts with lawn mower engines on them. And oh, we forgot the brakes cause we though we could drag out feet good enough to stop.

Injuries, sprained ankles, dislocated shoulders, rasberries from sliding into home plate, not texting thumbs. WHAAAAAT?

I get so sick of folks talking so much about their new cell phone that has trick app this and trick app that. Computers that can run a bank deposits. Crap, we went to the moon with 64K and lots of creative minds, creative minds that are leaving behind kids that have sore thumbs from texting.

Gawd, what has America become? I wonder if China takes over the world they will let us play computer games? I do reckon however, they will let us do each others laundry.

Now, on the other hand.......if anything ever happens to Steve Jobs.....

In all seriousness, It is difficult to think of Apple continuing to be successful without Steve Jobs.

Kids ran wild in the great outdoors. Snow forts, Snowball fights. Football in the snow. Reading a real newspaper on newsprint. Steelworkers drank a case of beer each day and sweated and worked it off during the workday. If a girl got pregnant she was sent off to live with relatives living a few states away and have the baby there. Gays kept their BS to themselves. Things we used were stamped “Made in USA”

We have definitely gone backwards

Jobs in the Front Man. He is the idea man. The man in Black. Apple will just have to find a new idea man...if they can. Jobs has a recurring illness with pancreas/liver problems. Next time he just might not return to Apple and the company will devolve into bickering fiefdoms. Then the Chinese will swoop down and buy it when the share price tanks......It will be a predatory takeover, they make the darn things anyway

Precisely where I was going with it... the times when he has been gone (in the 90s and then again in the last couple years) have been very telling...

But then again ...... the phrase “Windows 7 phone” sounds awful and dorky. While iPhone sounds great due to Steve Jobs’ successful campaign of brainwashing our youth. So that everything Apple is cool and if you have a Windows 7 laptop...You are a loser, a dumbass. You won’t get the hot girls.

Apple’s success starts with these young skulls full of mush. They can’t even think for themselves so Apple cleverly steps into the breach and thinks for them. AKA Brainwashing.

I give Jobs and Apple credit for one thing. Brilliant marketing.

Next time Jobs get ill and takes a sabbatical, Lenovo will mount a hostile takeover if the share price goes low enough. Lenovo and FoxCom will partner up to take over Apple. Heck, FoxCom makes the darn things. Over in Cupertino Apple markets the sh!t out of what FoxCom makes. That's one simple way of explaining Apple's success.

I always thought FR was a conservative website for the posting and discussion of relevant political or social news. What this cultist does (and has done for years) is post completely irrelevant and often inaccurate information about Apple. There are plenty of cultist-centric forums where like-minded zombies gather and seek meaning and affirmation through their choice of operating system. I have never figured out the relevance of it here.

It is sad, really, that he and others do what they do. I mean, at the end of the day, who really cares?
