For those who watched the Walking Dead finale Sunday night, is what happened to the CDC in the show realistic?

I hope not.
That show has given me more sleepless nights than I need from all the thinking about how terribly unprepared we are for a biological(non zombie)type of disaster.
No it’s not. They’ve got gamma emitters hidden in secret compartments in the walls, floors, and ceilings. In the event of a breach they open up and rad everything to death.
Useful information aside, “Walking Dead” is outstanding.
It is my only must see every week other than Trailer Park Boys and watching the Saints play.
The zombie apocalypse part, or the CDC’s flamethrower security system part?

I bet that in real life some brand newly hired employee could just waltz in while listening to Lady GaGa on his iPod and start picking out vials of highly contagious bioweapon agents and carry them right out the front door without anyone even bothering to look up from their FaceBook chat as he walked out of the building.
Why would anyone think that the CDC has a better security regimen than the US Army's and US State Department's top secret files which ended up on Wikileaks? They probably don't even bother trying to keep up the illusion that there's rigid security there.

I have no idea how secure the CDC really is but I do like the show!

Um, I find the best way to describe it is if you can... if you can imagine your body as a highway, and you picture the virus as a very fast car, um, being driven by a very bad man. Imagine the damage that car can cause. Then if you replace that man with a cop... the picture changes. And that’s essentially what we’ve done.
TV Personality: And how many people have you treated so far?
Dr. Alice Krippin: Well, we’ve had ten thousand and nine clinical trials in humans so far.
TV Personality: And how many are cancer-free?
Dr. Alice Krippin: Ten thousand and nine.
TV Personality: So you have actually cured cancer.
Dr. Alice Krippin: Yes, yes... yes, we have
I agree, it is outstanding. The opening scene of the season finale at the hospital really shed light on the chaos of peak of the outbreak when things were falling apart. I was wondering at the end of the first episode, what happened between the shoot out on the highway and him waking up alone in the hospital bed.
Agreed and it really made Shane’s character more sympathetic.
The CDC is actually the national Center for Disease Control, as to the "Walking Dead," it is the name of a show and I need no further info.
As to the main question of this thread...

I watch extremely limited tv. But, I did watch each episode. Watching it like it was a comic strip, I found it very entertaining. And, by the ratings, a good amount of folks did. Non political, funny, grim, kooky, unrealistic, but really quite entertaining.
I was a bit disappointed by the explosion scene, was way too unrealistic. That blast wave would have blown out windows, knocked the cars and rv over like nothing. But, the show is what it is, cheap fun thrills and entertainment. The second season got the green light, but might not be shown unti late next year.
That was my take. The concussive blast from the explosion would have killed everyone, not to mention the heat. But hey, like I tell my husband, its TV dammit, just watch and enjoy!
I said the same thing about the explosion. However, it’s one of best TV programs we’ve seen in a while. Very well written. We don’t watch too much TV, but this is worth it. The first season will be out on DVD in March.
