It's time to start looking for the perfect gifts for your pup, yourself, or the dog lovers in your life.

There are many sites with gifts for dog lovers, but most of them have items that are expensive, not affordable for the average shopper. It's been another tough year financially for almost everyone, so here is a great list with all items priced under $50. There is something on this list for everyone, showing you don't need a lot of money to give a special gift.

1. Dog Treats - Giving treats is a surefire way to be a hit with the family dog. Pampered Paw Gifts have something really special, they offer not only an amazing selection of holiday cookies, but a chance to have custom-packaged treats. You can get a bag of dog treats with the picture of the recipient on the front, and they have an assortment of pet-licious flavors to choose from.

2. Dog Books - Who doesn't love a good dog book? There's a huge array to choose from, but here's one that is a gem of a find. Bad To The Bone: Memoir Of A Rebel Doggie Blogger, by Bo Hoefinger, is a laugh-out-loud look at life through the dog's eyes. It's a misnomer all dog memoirs are sad; this one has broken out of the pack. It was nationally published by Kensington Books and can be found on Amazon or your favorite retailer. What could be better than giving the gift of laughter?

3. Custom Dog Portrait - Many dog owners dream of getting a custom portrait, but usually it's cost prohibitive. This is where artist Terry Howell Stanley comes in. She's an amazing artist, and offers 5×7 custom portraits starting from $30.

The first one (Dog Treats) is always a hit with my Shiba Inu, but the rest? What kind of a gift for a dog is a shampoo kit? He hates baths, and opening that on Christmas morning would be the equivalent of giving your child coal.

I make homemade dog and cat treats. There are plenty of recipes online and you know exactly what your pup is eating.

Those aren't gifts for dogs, those are gifts for the dog owners.

I asked my dog if he'd like a subscription to a dog magazine. "Only if I can poop on it!" was his answer.

He did suggest I get him more Planet Dog plastic tennis balls. He loves those. They're squishy and float in water even after the yellow plastic coverings have fallen off. He wants new ones because white ones blend in the snow.

A matching collar and leash set

My youngest Cocker pup pees when I approach him with his leash and collar. Poor baby. The only time I use it on my dogs is when they are either going to the Vet or the Groomers.

Every Christmas they get new toys and Dingo bones.

LOL! You made me laugh (and that is quite an accomplishment this early in the morning on the left coast).

Dolly, YOU are your dog's gift every day. You give them a wonderful life, full of exciting walks and stick chasing and swimming. No dogs could ask for more.....well, they probably would ask for more, if they could. LOL

My dog wants another subscription to Playdog magazine. He pretends to read the articles, but I caught him panting over the centerfold.
