The reconstructed version of the 5,000-year-old skeleton was unveiled during a ceremony attended by head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization Hamid Baqaei and Iran's ambassador to Italy Seyyed Mohammad-Ali Hosseini.
The woman, whose face has been reconstructed by a group of Iranian and Italian researchers, is famous for carrying the first prosthesis to have been used by man, ISNA reported.
This is a great scientific achievement which shows that Persians used innovative medical equipment 5,000 years ago, Baqaei said during the opening ceremony of the exhibition.
The unique discovery was the result of excavations in the Burnt City in 2006, when archaeologists found an artificial eyeball on a 1.82-meter- tall female skeleton, much taller than ordinary women of her time, and dated back to between 2900 and 2800 BCE.

I’ll keep an eye out for you, Honey...
How do we know the eyeball wasn’t added to the body after it died?
I guess they were Pi$$ing folks off back then also ....
I don't know who he was, but when he was alive, he wore a fedora and smoked an unlit cigar, because he still had both.
And apparently owned a Hawaiian shirt too.
You’ve found my missing Uncle Fred.
She has rocks in her head.
So Iran appeals to Italians as a tourism hotspot?
Good to know......
Oh my gosh, she looks just like Ronald Reagan! Oh wait...never minf.
Further study showed it's made of bitumen and discovered traces of gold and colour. In it's original condition, the eye was white with an iris and pupil.
The superb skills of manufacter used fine gold wire to represent the capillaries! Triangles were traced emerging from the iris. The effect must have been fascinating at a time of superstition and beliefs in seers, prophets and oracles.
In New Orleans, Miami, and other low-lying locations, some bodies are "buried" in stone "coffins" that are raised well above ground. Since the mass-migrations of Illegals to the US, those skeletons are often raided for voo-doo purposes.
(That's what you may have, but with a fraternitywho knows?)

<Since the mass-migrations of Illegals to the US, those skeletons are often raided for voo-doo purposes.
This was happening well before all the illegals. Probably 20-30 years ago, my step-father’s mother’s grave was robbed (in Miami) and her head taken, they assumed for voodoo, since she was the 7th grave from the gate.
Messed up my step-father for a long time.
Hey, I’d hit it...
From the article:
The eye was held in place with a golden thread, which went through tiny holes drilled on both sides of the eye.
Microscopic studies showed that the eye socket bore imprints of the golden thread, which suggest that the eyeball had been worn during its owner’s lifetime.
“....and ever since then, they called me Honest John.”

I saw this old fellow several times . He was in a small closet in the funeral home.
