'Tis Thanksgiving Week!
And given that, we'll be hearing lots more stories about the new TSA passenger searches and screenings.
Renewed bailout and financial worries grip Europe,
and back home 0 seems determined to get the START treaty thru the lameduck session of Congress.
Thank you for getting us started this week.
Please post your comments, news and opinions in the usual congenial way of this thread.
Time to get a little reading done.
Have you read anything by John Piper?
Someone was talking about using one of his books for study at church...after the new year I'm thinking...
I’ve read a bit of Piper. Of course, his seminal work is “Desiring God.” But one that I have really appreciated is “Future Grace.” It is uplifting, humbling, challenging and encouraging all at the same time.
I meant to saw that using one of Piper’s books as a springboard for a Bible Study is a very good idea.
But Future Grace is the one which'll be offered for study next year.
And lately I've been listening to a recording of a panel discussion at the most recent Desiring God conference.
My daughter and son-in-law flew in from San Francisco to DC (Dulles) yesterday, and I didn’t hear any horror stories. In fact, no mention at all of pat downs, body scans, etc.
It’s “Future Grace?” Go for it. Do everything you can to get to that study. I read the book a couple of years ago, but just Friday, someone asked me something and as I was thinking it through, I gave the recommendation based on a principle from that book. Of course, I think it was Scriptural as well, but the book was used to remind me of the thought.
Thanks for saying that. My daughter is flying on Tuesday.
I heard a story today from a friend: leaving the FL airport near their vacation place, the husband was waved easily thru the usual security, but SHE was "chosen", and asked to pick her method, picked the xray, not the pat-down. She said the woman administering the xray was gruff and grumpy, but while it annoyed her then, she could laugh about it this a.m.
Safe (and unmolested) travels for your daughter! Enjoy her visit .. I know I am enjoying mine.
I’m beginning to see a ‘silver lining’ to the scans. I (or more properly my insurance company, but I digress) just paid docs a BUNCH of $$$ for some partial scans. Maybe if I book myself on a flight and get scanned, I can just ask for copies to send the doc. What do you think they’d do if passengers started to ask for copies ?
Stupidity spotlighted

Start hoarding those beloved incandescent light bulbs that you have known for your entire life.
They're going the way of those buggy whips, rotary dial phones, 401Ks, and your prospects of ever getting another job in your life.
Yup, Congress in 2007 after watching Al Gore's award winning fantasy film decided to ban traditional light bulbs in the United States. Two years from now little boys and girls with insurmountable debt heaved upon them by the Greatest Generation and the Baby Boomers will wonder just what was so great about the old days when people could make decisions for themselves.
Change always means improvement as we have all been made aware in the last several years since Congress went "D" and even more so in the last 2 years since the darkness has overcome the light.
We're going "green" and it does not matter how much it costs or how much the incidents of "Mercury Poisoning" increase beginning the day after Congress "fixed" the light bulb problem in America by dumping some good jobs at good wages because they'll have a new cure for mercury poisoning by that time when it manifests itself.
If you thought the "lead paint" problem was bad, just wait until your kids and grand kids get a taste of the 80th Element. It can cause a myriad of problems such as lung scarring and kidney problems. That is OK though because we already have those problems and ObamaCare will provide good care for the children who handle the pretty lights that generate little to no heat.
"OOH pretty, must taste good....Crunch."
Back in the early 16th Century an alchemist who deemed himself "Paracelsus" declared that Mercury was a cure for certain ailments, particularly Syphilis. He was as much a curer of Syphilis as the Democrats are for our Economy. Look him up for fun's sake. A Genius with a complete absence of Peer Review type criticism. Some stuff was good, but the bad stuff was really bad.
So anyhow, who cares if there used to be a lot of jobs down in Virginia that manufactured more light bulbs than any other factory in the world?
Those poor folks in China needed those light bulb jobs during that two year interim between the closing of General Electrics Plant putting a few hundred workers more onto the rolls of the other few million unemployed. Besides those Winchester, Virginia folks all got guaranteed 99 weeks of benefits and plenty of time applying for other jobs that have not yet been exported to China.
That is what we do here in America to stimulate the Economy.
Congress makes a law and we finally get to send some exports to the People's Republic. We send them jobs, they send us light bulbs that we are no longer allowed to make here where they were invented.
Great plan.
Meanwhile back when Thomas Edison discovered 10,000 ways how not to make a light bulb over on the other side of the planet in the Forbidden City they always found ample supplies of bees wax for keeping the monolithic bureaucratic society that invented kites, gunpowder, papyrus, and spaghetti well illuminated after the sun went down.
But the sun rises in the East and is clearly setting in the West.
Thanks Congress.
A few freaking know-it-alls continue to mismanage the nations Economy and Leftys have been secure knowing that everything is just terrific.
Read the linked column above. It sheds a little light on the issue.
Hi, Molly!
Indianapolis opened their new terminal with the “state of the art” scanners, which ALL are required to go through here.
I went through the super-scanner and then had a cursory pat-down (required for all of us flying to Chicago, where my flight left for London. I knew it was one of those types, so I just “closed my eyed and thought of ENGLAND.” HA!
I think the whole thing is just a finger in the eye to those who oppose him. And you know who HIM is.
If I don’t get back here, Happy Thanksgiving to all. I am thankful for my country, my family, and the people I have met on ATRW. God bless you all!
Thanks for the start, Molly.
It was gloomy, overcast, and mostly damp here today. More of the same tomorrow. Tuesday it is suppose to clear out,, which is good, as I have been invited to attend a Ceremony honoring the Medal of Honor recipient. There will be a long line to be screened prior to entry,, so clear skies will be welcome.
What a terrific idea. I’m going to pass that on to friends who fly a lot.
>>Travel mercies to all who need them this week.
Tell me it isn’t true that Muslim women get a pass.
I think you are on to something.
They can set up Obamacare Docs at the scanners and do physicals on the “fly”. Think of the money we’ll save the scoialists. Everyone will be equal!!
“Hey you - you have an enlarged heart. Step aside please”
