The science-fiction genre has been around almost as long as movies themselves have.

No, we haven’t started Castle yet. Plan to.
I love Nathan’s attitude towards his show and his fans. By contrast, after SMG and David Boreanaz left their Whedon shows, it was as if they wanted to pretend it never happened. We’ve started watching Bones and, though we’re up to Season 4, not one whisper of a nod, though one or two who’ve acted in Whedon shows have been on.
But not Nathan. Cool guy.
Re: Castle & Firefly
There has been one other nod to Firefly on Castle... The Halloween episode of Castle was BRILLIANT and had me laughing!

I really love the show. It’s one of the few that I won’t miss. And you’re right about the fans. Firefly has some rabid fans, and all the stars of the show seem genuinely surprised and honored by the fans’ love.

The Dark Crystal was OK. There was a 3rd movie in that trilogy (Mirror Mask) which I didn’t really like that much. We do own the trilogy, my daughter got it for christmas one year.
Monolith Monsters is one I missed, but will look for it on Netflix...
In this week’s Chuck, there was another nod to Firefly (very subtle). Adam Baldwin plays Major Casey. This week, Summer Glau played an assassin, working for the CIA. Casey told her to “stand down” before killing a couple of inept employees of the “Buy More” cover location. She did, and I swear there was a bit of enjoyment on “Jayne’s” face when he finally got the better of “River”.
I miss Firefly.
Thank you! :)
>>I always thought Prince Of Darkness(1987 John Carpenter) was a great film and a good marriage of SciFi and Horror.
I don’t know why, but that movie freaked me out.
Both are good stuff, in my book.
I'm sorry, but as far as I'm concerned, it's called Star Wars--at least that was the title when I saw it in the theater.
Same here. I remember when it came out my girlfriend and I went to see it and it was an 11:00pm showing plus a storm was coming up. Half way into to it the power went out in the theater and for a about 15 minutes everybody just sat there nervously whispering real quiet to one another. It was very strange. They finally got the lights back on and restarted the film and it was even more freaky then. It was truly a rememberable movie outing for me. I notice that a lot of people were real jumpy as we were walking back to our car at the mall after the movie.
"Wings Over the World"
I think the list is "for all time" not for early this year!
I know I can't be the first to point out the obvious so I won't.
I'll watch it whenever I see it on the dial!
One of the few films where I had read the Short Story by Barry B. Longyear (in Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine) before seeing the movie.
They did a good job with the film overall. They could never adequately convey on film the human space pilot learning the list of the Drac lineage for 170 generations with the occupations and achievements of each ancestor so that he could later teach it to the young Drac orphan and enable him to take his proper position in his Drac clan.
I would also remove every remake from the list as redundant, presumptuous, mercenary and duplicitous.
This includes "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" as a driveling ripoff of the TOS episode, "The Changeling", piled high with stifling Hollywood gilding to placate dumb-masses that would not ordinarily watch Science Fiction even if it were packaged like "The Time Traveler's Wife."
Looks like a good list. Anything on there you haven’t seen yet?
There are some outstanding sci-fi movies on that list and no, I haven’t seen all of them, just most of them. I disagree with a few on the list and also wonder about the omission of some other great ones. I would definitely put the little known Russian film, “Stalker” on that list. It’s by the same director who did the original “Solaris.” Thoughtful and thought provoking. And I have to agree with many of the other posters on this thread - “Blade Runner” is in a whole class by itself and deserves the number 1 spot.
Would you add me to your cinema ping list, please? Thanks!
