His original "RoboCop" should have been on there.

Indeed. It is a classic.

There are other movies that come to mind as well. It really depends on your taste.

I am 'sucker', but I liked some of these

Close Encounters
Roller Ball
Predator
Dark City
Mysterious Island
A boy and his Dog
Dark Star
Flight of the Navigator
Brother from another Planet
Alien Nation

And others. One could go on and on.

“and why didn’t “An Inconvenient Truth” make the list?? I bet Algore is steamed.”

Bet he’s already hiring lawyers for the recount.

I would have included “The crawling eye” with Forest Tucker......aka “The trollenburg terror”.

I simply cannot believe the very best movie of all time, “Plan 9 From Outer Space,” has been left off this list. Bella Lugosi’s dentist deserved an Oscar for best supporting actor too. Thor didn’t have much of a speaking role, but he was truly overpowering in his portrayal of the police chief. And, who can forget Vampira? I’m truly shocked and disappointed that this masterpiece was not even mentioned.

I disagree with quite a few of the author’s choices.

I do too. The biggest one is Starship Troopers. While the special effects were very good, the plot is stupid. Here we have humans flying through space but have no vehicles capable of transporting them across the ground. Here we have humans with shoulder carried nuke launchers but no artillery of any kind. Here we have humans with massive space ships but no aircraft for protection of ground troops. Here we have humans with means to regrow tissue but no DDT to kill bugs. Here we have humans with all kinds of wonderful syfy stuff but still firing simple guns.

Stupid, stupid.

I do not see Gattica (1997). I think that was very good. Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman and Jude Law.

2001: A Space Odyssey was a filmaking spectacle, but was bo - ring... I saw it in the theater when it came out and thought it would never end. There's a reason why you almost never see it on TV. Also, the theater release (narrated) version of Blade Runner was better than the recent "director's cut" version, in my opinion. In any event, it's ranked #1? Great movie, but no. No way.

I stood up and cheered during this scene.

My favorite was when Jack Nicholson got impaled: "Put 'er there, pal!"

I would consider Star Wars I (1977) to be the greatest science fiction film of all time, but I don’t even see it on the list.

That was Star Wars ep IV: A New Hope. Star Wars ep. I was The Phantom Menace. Yousa likesa Jar-Jar Binks? Mesa thinks you crazy ... ;-)

in the original, it’s a slim possiblility. in the director’s cut, it’s much more likely. in the book, almost certainly not, but possible.

16: Starship Troopers

No, I didn't like it. Not as disappointing as the movie version of 'Dune', but not a good movie at all.

Starship Troopers?

The book was great, but that movie was dreck.

Even if you could get past a military that had apparently forgotten everything it ever knew, the deviations from Heinlein's book and Hollywood Leftist slant were unforgivable.

I think “Bladerunner” deserves to be Number 1, and “Metropolis” might move up in the rankings a bit. Both make very strong points about the nature of human nature in the past, present, and future... and then go on to show how the personal/social/physical “architecture” of the future depends so much on the architectures of the past. Both end with significant unfinished plot and character business, with no apparent harm to the two really good stories. And while each displays significant movie-making flaws, those do nothing to diminish the viewing experience.

“Great book (Heinlein, of course), but I heard the movie was very disappointing. Anyone like it?”

Dina Meyer was pretty awesome in it :)

Not a bad list I would have included ‘Outland’ though.

Agreed.

Best dialogue in the film:

Marshal O'Neil: Are you Dr. Lazarus?
Dr. Lazarus: Yes. Take two aspirin and call me in the morning. That's a doctor joke.
Marshal O'Neil: I'd like a report of all the incidents in the last six months. I'd like it soon, or I might just kick your nasty ass all over this room. That's a marshal joke.
