The science-fiction genre has been around almost as long as movies themselves have.

John-Boy Walton & Judy Robinson go looking for [space] mercs, and come up with Robert Vaughan & George Peppard, among other type-casted "theme" characters.
I agree- the SW films are SciFan. I also agree that leaving them out would make the fan GIRLS nuts.
I think they’re in a class-and on a list- by themselves.
Oh- and I have to defend ROTJ. The first SW film I ever saw. Eliminate the Ewoks and the stupid ‘convenient siblings’ BS and its a great movie.
Actually, eliminate George Lucas from the process by Jedi would have ensured a second ESB.
I haven't seen it yet, but friends who have did recommend it.
Yes, but if he was a replicant, how was he able to exist without being terminated from the authorities? Many questions go left unanswered.

What? Wheres Killer Clowns From Outerspace?
I’m stuned!!! SANTA CONQUERS THE MARTIONS is not on the list!
Eli and Legend are post apocalyptic horrors, not scifi.
Then the same could be said for
43: The Omega Man
49: Things to Come
These two are guffaw worthy:
16: Starship Troopers
15: Independence Day
I am a sci-fi fan, but “2001: A Space Odyssey” puts me to sleep almost every time I try to watch it. Not sure it would make my personal Top 10. Might be a generational thing.
“Alien” is better than “The Matrix” by at least a touchdown.
I liked the Dune series..though the first one was by far the best.
I know for certain that “Starship Troopers” doesn’t belong on this list.
Where’s Don Johnson in “A Boy and his Dog”??
I also think the original Planet of the Apes HAS to be on this list... and, “Them”..
But, hands down, The Matrix is #1 to me.
I’m STILL freaked out by that movie.
I agree, “The Core” is a very good movie and the character development is excellent. You really care about them when things do not go as planned.
Please take me off this list.
Empire is generally considered more Sci-Fi than Sci-Fan, but overall, yeah, it's generally fantasy. The original (IV) is a fairy tale set in space, once upon a time in the faraway galaxy of ... there was a princess in danger ...
Agree. BTW, all 3 represented their individual eras, and all that was good and bad with movies in each. The Smith version as well. And, while I don't totally trash it, after seeing it a couple of times, I just don't want to see it again, unlike the Price and Heston movies. (I find a lot of the "modern" era movies like that. )
