Aretha Franklin should be about 27,426 on the female singers list. She has no real voice. Whitney Houston pretty much stands alone, IMO.

I think it’s a reasonable list. Whitney Houston was a great singer before drugs sidelined her career. Mariah Carey, though I don’t love her music, is an excellent vocalist. Same for Celine Dion. I’m happy to see Pat Benatar get some recognition.

Maria Callas and Whitney Houston belong on that list. The rest don’t.
Prior to getting involved with Brown and drugs, Whitney had the most beautiful voice I ever heard. Her rendition of the national anthem is easily the best ever.

Karen Carpenter was flawless.

Some female singers I like--not saying their the best ever, but I like them better than probably everyone on this list:
Ruth Brown
Ella Fitzgerald
Leslie Feist
Alison Krauss

Any list that doesn’t include Karen Carpenter is just wrong.
To: Eric in the Ozarks
Janis Joplin died at the age of 27, and I think her reputation as a singer is overstated because of her death.

What ??? Mahalia Jackson isn’t on the list!!
