I never liked Annie Lennox...UNTIL she did that hauntingly sad yet beautiful “Into the West” for “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King”. She won an Oscar for that one, and well-deserved it was.

Thank you. It wasn’t nice of me to call her an ugly broad, but the fact she sings like an angel overcomes her looks.

Sade, exactly. Not just a great voice, but incredible musicality.

That is the only intelligent response to a list that includes Callas and, say, Aretha Franklin.

I had that song played during the funeral service for my late wife ...

Emmy Lou Harris does have a lot of beautiful songs. Her style is sort of unique, also.

Agreed 100%. But before I could ever go along with meidocrities like Celine Dione and Pat Benatar and Christina Aguilera, at the top of my list I’d wanta see Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Carmen McRae, Nancy Wilson, June Christie, Chris Conner, Anita O’Day, Dinah Shore, Edye Gormet, Rosemary Clooney, Peggy Lee, Susannah McCorkle, Dolly Parton, Tammy Wynette, Loretta Lynn, Patty Loveless — and probably a few others if my memory weren’t so bad!
