Warning to Christians: There may be churches that will bless your Blackberry, but your favorite morning workout may undermine your faith.
In a recent blog post, Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr. president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, examines the argument that practicing yoga may be in direct conflict with the values of Christianity. "Yoga begins and ends with an understanding of the body that is, to say the very least, at odds with the Christian understanding," Mohler writes.

Can yoga be done on a train?
Only if done on a high speed monorail.
Damn it, 9 seconds, lol!
“Fasting works in a similar manner in that it decreases serotonin produced in the enterochromaffin cells and thus decreases the amount available to block cell signaling in the synaptic cleft, which allows unresolved emotional issues to surface.”
Yeah you don’t eat you get crabby and your defense mechanisms drop...torturers and interrogators right back to the first person who ever beat another with a stick knew about that one!
Does he feel this way about speaking in tongues?
LOL!
When you get both feet stuck behind your head, that’s when you know it’s the devil’s work.
Just call it “stretcing” and don’t worry about it.
And before Jesus, before the Old Testament, where did incarnated souls seek salvation?
BTW, Hinduism was a monotheistic religion.
This Reverend obviously wouldn't want a Christian husband and wife exploring anything beyond the missionary position.
“he wants to put his goodness into all of us”
So does Yogi Okie Dokie.

I understand what you are saying, but it isn’t about “seeing spiritual evil in stretching your body”. In my case, when I tried it, in a group, my thoughts and feelings were attracted to something very pleasantly dark and evil.... that is why I can’t do it.
As a Christian, I am responsible to stay away from situations that harm me... Yoga does...
I wouldn’t put speaking in tongues and yogic chants in the same category; but, Dr. Mohler is a cessationalist and would not agree that speaking in tongues is a gift for today.
“”Dr. Mohler is actually quite brilliant. Rather than make a snap judgment of him, I would encourage your reading his daily posts.””
He may be brilliant, but he is talking about a subject he knows very little about. I am a Christian and read & study the Bible daily. But also practice yoga and work with people going through spiritual psychoses on a regular basis. I’ve been studying the kundalini process associated with yoga for about twenty years and have found it very similar to the experiences described by St. Theresa of Avila in her book “The Interior Castle,” where she outlines the spiritual awakening process.
I will read some of Dr. Mohler’s information and reserve judgement on the rest until then. Thank you for your defense of him as I am always looking for excellent Bible scholars.
I know Dr Mohler personally, and seriously doubt he hasn’t studied the subject in great detail. I believe he reads several whole books a week, and retains what he reads. One of the brightest men I’ve ever met. He has a climate controlled library in his basement and just loves to study. You may not always agree with him. But the more you read what he has to say you’ll have to respect him.
Interesting. I didn’t think about anything other than how badly I hurt myself.
“To the contrary, I dont think you understand that concept. At least not from a biblical perspective.”
I have read extensively on the subject and experienced it myself. I am always open to learn more and welcome any references. I teach workshops on this subject and diagram the consciousness flow patterns and neuroscience associated with it.
If you ever care to discuss it off this forum, I welcome it and always keep an open mind to learn more. I’m a little unusual in that I am able to read people’s(total strangers) memories and life experiences just by being around them since I went through the process. It is as much a curse as a blessing.
And before Jesus, before the Old Testament, where did incarnated souls seek salvation?”
Same place they always have. Check out Job, he lived before any of the OT was penned.
