Warning to Christians: There may be churches that will bless your Blackberry, but your favorite morning workout may undermine your faith.

In a recent blog post, Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr. president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, examines the argument that practicing yoga may be in direct conflict with the values of Christianity. "Yoga begins and ends with an understanding of the body that is, to say the very least, at odds with the Christian understanding," Mohler writes.

Yoga is Sanskrit for Yuj - meaning union with God and there are many forms. Look into it if you care to.

Per the article: “Christians are not called to empty the mind or to see the human body as a means of connecting to and coming to know the divine.”

Don’t think he understands the concept of “dying daily.”

When you get your foot stuck behind your head you are going to regret ever hearing of yoga, let alone worry that it is anti Christian.

Dr. Mohler is actually quite brilliant. Rather than make a snap judgment of him, I would encourage your reading his daily posts.

The kind of ‘yoga’ practiced around the USA is just slow calisthenics with some Sanskrit/Hindi jargon thrown in to make it seem exotic.

To the contrary, I don’t think you understand that concept. At least not from a biblical perspective.

The Root of Yoga comes out of Hinduism and is ultimately evil!

IMO, if one is convicted in their conscience that yoga is bad for them, then they shouldn’t do it (I’m one of them). God deals with each of us differently, and if there is no conviction that it is wrong, then it is not wrong.

Our personal experiences/history determines a lot of what is bad or good for us to engage in individually (conscience-wise)...... God knows.... that’s one of the major reasons that it is wrong to judge others... We don’t know their relationship with the Lord.

Sanskrit, literally, yoking, from yunakti he yokes; akin to Latin jungere to join — more at yoke

Yoga does much the same as “fasting” as a spiritual cleansing exercise. It serves to stimulate our unresolved issues in our souls and to bring them into conscious awareness for resolution. The relaxation of the muscles, caused by the stretching exercises, decreases our physiological and psychological defense mechanisms.

Fasting works in a similar manner in that it decreases serotonin produced in the enterochromaffin cells and thus decreases the amount available to block cell signaling in the synaptic cleft, which allows unresolved emotional issues to surface.

“The Spirit hath emnity with the flesh....”

We live in corruptible sin filled bodies which will perish but our souls will be given incorruptible bodies.

Christ regenerates the inner man or as the scripture says “deep calls unto deep”.

Paul says “The outer man perishes but tthe inner man is renewed day by day”.

Christianity is completely at odds with Yoga!
