Why We Shouldn't Burn Korans (Vanity)
Vanity | 09-06-10 | Self

Posted on 09/07/2010 7:53:35 PM PDT by oldleft

None of us should burn a koran, or any book for that matter. We should all have access to every available text ever written and be able to make up our own minds about it.

Sure, I understand that the pending koran burning is a political statement more than an action to rid the world of the stupid book. But it sends the wrong message.

I WANT people to read this book, to truly understand its message. Taken in the context of modern events no sane person could possibly take the koran seriously. Imagine if more people had read "Mien Kampf" or the "Communist Manifesto." Imagine if in 1900 "Das Kapital" was required reading. How many lives could have been saved?

So instead of burning this stupid book we should be encouraging people to read it. READ the koran, and try to UNDERSTAND it. Only then will people know its true and terrifying nature.

What gets me is Patraeus' statement that burning the Koran would put our troops in greater danger. Uh, General...aren't we at war? Aren't the troops: 1) already in great danger (I've always heard wars are dangerous), and 2) prepared to defend themselves from their enemies, who already don't like them very much as it is? Should we be more worried about defeating our f**king enemies instead of playing politically correct pattycake with them?!?!?!

Right on wku man. Our good general's job is to protect us and to win our wars. He needs to shut up on this issue - our military men and women are already at risk!

I was in Indonesia[2005] during the last controversy over the desecration of a Quran in the news[Gitmo]. The hotel I was staying at got attacked by angry mobs of muslims and was repealed by the local security. I was not injured but another hotel was attacked and a few Westerners were beaten.

The same thing is gonna happen. I don't blame Muslims, but individuals.

IMHO, individuals are gonna use this as an excuse to attack Americans worldwide. That's all.

On the other hand, I think we should consider it a thumb in the eye to Islamists, similar to the burning of the flag that they, and their secular liberal allies have often given to us.

Hey, the Koran isn’t going to go away, more’s the pity, and Islam needs to learn that it will never rule the world.

Although abortion is legal, it is not a right. Our rights are derived from God and government is supposed to secure those right for us.

I applaud Koran-burning, or using it for toilet paper. I support filming said use to piss of Muslims, regardless of what that assclown Petraeus says about it.

I just won't applaud this douchbag "Pastor" Terry Jones doing it...now that it has been revealed how he supported the ultra-vile and beyond contempt Westboro Baptist "Church" and their protests.

I wouldn’t burn a book to protest or destroy the message in it.

I would burn the Koran as an act to show that Islamofascists can’t overturn my First Amendment rights!

Really? So Jesus was wrong?

Iread and reread your response and still do not see anything where Jesus said to insult other's religions by burning their books.

Uncle REAM-US, from the White House says “they have the freedom of religion and all legal rights to do just as they plan!”

Did he mean build the Mosque or burn the Quran/Koran?

"No, I don’t care to argue with you,"

Of course you don't. You want to launch a drive-by, ad hominem attack on me, then not stick around to have to defend yourself. Happens all the time on DU and the Yahoo blog.

"...but if there is even a small chance that an action of mine would enrage a person in Afghanistan who was up to this point non-violent, and that person (or many persons) would react violently and endanger a friend or a relative over there fighting for me...for myself I would not burn a stupid book just to make a point."

Do you really believe we can "win their hearts and minds"? I mean that worked so well in Vietnam, and it's been working so well in Iraq (seven years) and Afghanistan (nine years, longer than the Soviet occupation) thus far, right? For that matter, it's cousin, "peace talks" with the Commie North Koreans has worked really well, hasn't it?

It's a war. History shows us the only way to decisively win a war is to kill the enemy until he begs you to stop killing him. Somewhere along the way, he's gonna get mad at you. But if you've killed him, killed his family, destroyed his country's ability to wage war on you anymore, and inflicted so much pain on him he's had all he can take, who gives a crap if he's mad? He can go off and sulk after the unconditional surrender is signed.

Burn it-—read it as you please.

This ministers actions are a DIRECT RESPONSE TO LIES PERPETUATED FOR 9 YEARS BY OUR GOVERNMENT.

Islam is a religion of peace. Uh-huh. This minister is refuting the non-sense preached by two Presidents—more so than the flat out lying done by our mudslime friends.

Do as you wish Dove Church—do not be intimidated by either grab bag of dishonesty.

And have fun!

It makes a difference which translation you read, Muslims have made a sanitized versions for Western consumption.

“””It is also important to note, that Muslims have recently published more politically correct versions of the Qur’an and of the Hadith. Although they cannot fix the author’s (Muhammad/Allah’s) complete lack of moral character and intelligence, the recent renditions have sought to remove many violent verses, rewriting them to suit modern sensibilities. Therefore, if you own a “politically correct” Qur’an or a sanitized Hadith collection, we ask that if you come across an instance where it appears we may have misrepresented Muhammad/Allah’s actual message, that you take the time to review all five of the most universally accepted and respected translations, and buy printed versions of the Hadith collections, before you criticize our scholarship. If you take the time to do this, what you will discover is that today’s Muslims are obediently following their prophet/god’s policy of lying to and deceiving Infidels so as to make us easier prey. Don’t let that happen to you.”””

[Yes, this is provocative, but isn’t it time?]

when would be a good time? When Sharia rules the world? It is only provoctive BECAUSE Muslims want to kill us all while this is a non-violent protest. Otherwise it would be a non-issue.

You can write "Koran" on a roll of toilet paper, then...well, use your imagination. Works with "Obama", too.
