I’ve been there. I’ve seen them come speeding up from behind me. Life is easier and less aggravating if I find a gap and shift over. I can usually shift right back.

Two people can be impolite to each other at the same time. They shouldn’t tailgate, but you shouldn’t clog the passing lane.

Hilarious after reading all of your posts on this thread stating that you won’t be bullied... you slow down and brake check... etc. You are a prime candidate. ;)

you shouldn’t clog the passing lane

As I said above, it amazes me that anyone would call 76 mph "clogging the passing lane." The speeders seem to be trying to see how many vehicles they can "pass" at one time. Is there some sort of competition going on? Is it in Guinness? What's the record anyway?

Being in the passing lane while people come up behind you is clogging the passing lane regardless of your speed. You could be doing 120 if somebody comes up and you aren’t at least making an effort to get out of the way you’re clogging it, period. Don’t worry about what the speeders are doing, just get out of the way, it’s a PASSING lane, not a hanging out declaring your speed optimal lane.

Hear, hear! (I assume that your “move to the left lane” was British for “move to the right lane.”)

On a freeway....drive 55 in the PASSING lane, forcing me to pass on the right.

Yea, I did that once only to find out that the guy driving 55 was doing so because a trooper (who I did not see) was right behind me.

!Ticket!

Who cares. Just get out of the way. I’m a fast but not crazy driver, so I get passed about half as often as I pass, when I’m in the passing lane I’m checking the mirror, if somebody is coming I make the decision on finding a gap before finishing my pass or finishing my pass. If the guy overtaking gets close enough to me to tailgate I know I made the wrong decision.

Wow, you’re fast. What’s the fastest you’ve ever gone on an Interstate? What time of day do you travel, and what Interstate is this you’re talking about? I wish to avoid it.

All 10 on that list sound like an accident waiting to happen.

....and just out of curiosity, how fast are the "crazy" ones going who are passing you? Like I said, I want to not be there.

“11) Those scared to death by round-abouts, or who treat them as stop signs, uggh, gimme a death ray ...”

We don’t have “round-abouts” in America. Those are in Great Britain.

:)

SO it’s the slow drivers that are causing the accidents, NOT the fast speeders. Thanks for clarifying that for me! I have always wondered. ;0}

My normal cruise is 80 to 85, which puts me 5 to 10 above (we’re almost all 75 for the limit in the South West). I pegged the speedometer of a Geo Metro, that one probably qualified as crazy since it was at least 110. You don’t have to be going fast to pass a lot of people, probably about 20% of the population doesn’t even hit the speed limit, a bunch of the rest are at the limit.

But of course you’re ignoring the important part, which is detecting the over taker EARLY and being out of their path BEFORE they could possibly tailgate. You should always be aware of what’s behind you (could be emergency vehicles), you should be extra aware in the passing lane.

Thanks! I know you’ll be as relieved as I am to learn that we are in different parts of the country. Drive careful now!

We have that miles and miles of miles and miles out here, perfect place for going fast, the highways are actually designed to be safe at 100 but the fed tops things out at 75.

Well, good for you! lol A convenient use of mockery to then ignore relevant points subsequently made, isn't it? Anyway, I always stop reading after someone uses the word "anyways, so no harm, no foul.

Slow drivers in the passing lane? Yes.
