My normal cruise is 80 to 85, which puts me 5 to 10 above (we’re almost all 75 for the limit in the South West). I pegged the speedometer of a Geo Metro, that one probably qualified as crazy since it was at least 110. You don’t have to be going fast to pass a lot of people, probably about 20% of the population doesn’t even hit the speed limit, a bunch of the rest are at the limit.
But of course you’re ignoring the important part, which is detecting the over taker EARLY and being out of their path BEFORE they could possibly tailgate. You should always be aware of what’s behind you (could be emergency vehicles), you should be extra aware in the passing lane.
