The U.S. Senate has dropped a House-approved plan that would prepare the United States to defend itself from an attack from any electromagnetic pulse source whether it would be from a natural solar flare or the detonation of a space-located nuclear weapon by enemies intent on destroying America's infrastructure, according to a representative who has raised alarms over EMP.
U.S. Rep. Roscoe Bartlett, R-Md., said it is "unfortunate."
"While one part of the federal government was warning us of possible solar electromagnetic-pulse damage to our electric grid, a key Senate commission approved a bill to ignore this threat," he said.

In my research I’ve learned that old microwave ovens make decent expedient Faraday cages. So in the garage is a discarded microwave oven with some of those little Motorola FMRs radios, a couple of GPS units, a hand cranked emergency radio, a relatively inexpensive Gen 1 NV unit, and a couple of other electronic doohickeys that may come in handy.
I read it, too. Terrifying. I hear from some that the actual physics of it aren’t as bad as portrayed in “One Second After.” I hope not.
Strangely enough, this happens to be an area I know something about, having consulted to electricity concerns on risk management.
1. Congress could fund a "cold storage" facility for spares of the very large transformers that will go in the first EMP wave and cannot be manufactured and delivered in something like under 18-24 months. (And btw, these are made in China now, so consider the implications).
2. Create a 100% tax deduction for the purchase of small gas, propane, wind, water, and solar generators. Basically create a tax break for decentralizing the grid.
3. Harden the existing infrastructure. This is technical, but could be done across all of the American grid for about $4 billion.
But none of this matters because the evil, murdering liars in DC consider us much easier pickin's if we're cold, hungry, and in the dark.
My daughter and I were discussing this and just how far the EMP would be effective from the detonation site.
The more atmosphere to go through and the further away, the less damaging it would be.
Could a nuke really get launched from off shore without us intercepting it before it got over land?
We may have 100s of millions of firearms, but months later in the aftermath of a successful EMP attack - who is going to man them effectively?
An EMP attack has the potential of causing the death of 100s of millions of Americans through social chaos, disease, and starvation. IIRC, the estimated mortality rate after a year amy approach 90% in affected areas as we almost instantaneously devolve into the 18th century. But 70% or 80% mortality would leave us nearly as vulnerable to foreign enemies who are well armed, well fed, healthy, and have the advantage of technology mobility on their side, would it not?
We can only fork over trillions of dollars to Al Gore's globalist combustion man-made environmental disaster doomday cult.
Bad news for the Chevy Volt.
They won't.....
.....They are too busy soaking us with the "fix" for the imaginary worst crisis we face...Global Warming / Climate Change, topped off with the real created crisis for the previously non-crisis health care system "reform".
Real potential threats like terrorism and EMP preparedness are not sexy or lucrative enough.
whether it would be from a natural solar flare or the detonation of a space-located nuclear weaponnot to worry, we'll still be able to rely on health care rationing and death panels. Thanks The Comedian.

DC elite are not concerned. They’ll have bunkers with lots of protected tech, weapons, power and food.
The slugs (us) will be living like Mad-Max on horses
Can I get in on the Preparedness/Survival ping action?
I suppose I could learn to enjoy horse meat. Gotta be better than the horseshit you’d have to endure living with the DC elite.
I just keep my blackberry in the microwave so I can text folks after the attack.....or not.
We’re not paying them, Jeffrey. We’re being robbed blind by them.
Thanks for the ping!
Shut this down...shut these all down...
I agree with you. However, I would point out that the conservatives are more likely to live, with rural folks having much LOWER mortality rates than the Urbanites. Thus, many of the 100million gun owners would be more likely to survive than the non gun owners. That’s my take.
Still, I personally believe that we’ll be hit by an EMP event, natural, or man made, as the Bible alludes to no lights shining, no music, no dancing, no millstones grinding, etc. Furthermore, I’m confident that the U.S. will be broken up at some point (at least from it’s present form), simply because we’re already regionalizing, and I have other reasons. I think in the grand History of the World, the U.S. has accomplished some very great things, but her chapter may be coming to a close. All empires end (at some point), but there won’t be an end to freedom. I believe that we will be invaded, probably by Mexico on the South, and China on the West, and who kknows on the East. I think Mexico will reclaim territory, China may get some ports, but not much farther, and (perhaps domestic) will attack from the East, but we’ll pull through ok, people should probably start getting out of the big cities, and especially the Lib high concentration coasts, especially. International Trade may become a moot point in any event. Who knows, but I believe it could be the scenario.
