It is one of the planet's newest awe-inspiring superstructures - the Hoover Dam Bridge. Now the giant construction project which is on schedule to be completed in September can be seen in all its glory in a series of stunning photographs.
Twelve years in planning and five years under construction, the development - known officially as the 'Mike O'Callaghan-Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge' - is finally taking shape.

I presume the intent is to get heavy traffic off the dam itself.
The short answer, Phoenix, to Las Vegas.
I believe it’s to get traffic OFF of the dam itself ... security risk.
It will take the usual traffic that must drive the switchbacks and cross the dam. That would be people that are driving from Kingman, AZ to Las Vegas, NV. Much shorter route to Las Vegas for anyone using I-40 from the east than going all the way to the 95 and then up to Vegas.

As well as to eliminate the periodically ridiculous wait times on either side to get across the dam.

My guess is that the bridge is designed to keep gawkers from gawking.

Traffic over the Hoover Dam is clogged and slow in summer.
It connects Arizona with Nevada. Since it’s only a two lane road over the dam, it’s a perpetual traffic jam. The bridge should help a lot, it should have been built decades ago.
The water from the Colorado River flows into Mexico, ultimately. The real loss from the Hoover Dam would be most of the water for Las Vegas and a good part of its electricity, too. Some the power goes to LA, too.
The Mexicans would be happy if the water were not diverted to Las Vegas (”The Meadows”) BTW.
I used to live in Vegas many years ago, was a truck mechanic, had to go work on trucks stuck on the switchbacks coming and going to the bridge, its a real bottleneck, and yes its also a very easy target for a terrorist.
All one would need is a type of trailer that could have a track that would drop several underwater mines over the water side of the dam spaced apart and on consecutive timers.
Dambusters by an 18 wheeler. A very determined intelligent radical can do it, trick is to research at what depth is optimum and at what point they need to be dropped.
I rode across the dam on my motorcycle about 2 years ago and was waved past a road block about a mile before the dam.
Everyone in a vehicle larger than a motorcycle was being pulled over and searched....presumably as a precaution against any such explosive exploit.
