Bathers at Viennas 18 public pools swallow 5,000 litres of water, according to new research.
City officials said today (Mon) around 5,000 of the 31 million litres the pools are filled with were "lost" as swimmers accidentally guzzle them.
Authorities said they did not consider taking action about it despite the daily amount of "lost" chlorine water being worth around 15 Euros.
Some media claimed last summer Vienna officials considered banning guests at public swimming pools from wearing baggy Bermudas as they take around 2.5 litres of water with them every time they get out of the pool after a swim.
Austria is currently gripped by a heatwave. Temperatures reached 36 degrees centigrade at the weekend, and meteorologists said the situation will not change over the next few days.
Doctors have appealed to elderly and sick people to avoid midday sunshine and stay indoors most of the day, adding that young and old were well advised to drink sufficiently to avoid health problems.

People should know that what they think is a chloring smell around a pool, is really the smell of chlorine reacting with urine in the water.

2.5 liters is about 5 pounds of water. Even a sham-wow burka can't hold that much weight.
If my bathing suit gained 5 pounds when I went into the water, it'd have a tendency to be negatively affected by gravity when I came out
Maybe the translation was corrupted when they converted from Austrian to English (/S)

No doubt Viennas swimmers leave behind an imposing quantity of unchlorinated water ~ well, maybe its got some salt in it, and some urea, and some other stuff........ Mmmm...creatinine!

36 C? Just a nice warm day. I thought it was a bit hot the other day when we were just over 39.

A lot of that’s due to those Vienna sausages floating around in the pool...

Amazing! None of the water evaporates! So people must be drinking it.
Swimming in a public pool each and every summer in my life, I realized as a child that I should nevah! drink the pool water. Even without the vile, putrid taste of the chlorine, I would not drink pool water.

How do they calculate how much is swallowed, how much evaporates, who much is pulled out in sopping wet hair and swimsuits, and how much is splashed out by kids having water wars and diving and cannon balling?
Sheesh, state something as if it’s a scientifically accurate statistic and people will believe anything.

Uh, huh.
Sounds like a boatload of sh!t, more damned lies created by scumbag media liberal Nazi-wannabee bastards to get people feeling “guilty” about yet another fabricated “crisis.”
Maybe after drinking the disgusting pool water, the people carried 2.5 litres in their bladders? /s

I used to be a life guard at a private pool in a ritzy community in the hamptons for a summer job. I won't tell you what I found in the pool. (Or the weird looks people comming early game me when I was fishing out a pair of panties. The response "I wish I were responsible" would have been better without the kids around.)
At any rate, do not drink pool water. In fact, shower afterwards. Not a joke.
Some media claimed last summer Vienna officials considered banning guests at public swimming pools from wearing baggy Bermudas as they take around 2.5 litres of water with them every time they get out of the pool after a swim.
Huh? 2.5 liters is roughly 85 ounces or 5 pounds 5 ounces.
