The archaeological Project Manager, Robin Jackson, said: "When we first looked at the leg and arm bones, the muscle attachments suggested it was quite a strapping big bloke, but the pelvis and head, and all the indicators of gender, say it's a woman." Probably an early Russian Shot putter!

A wealthy Roman landowner kept a number of trained fighters for the Arena Games, including an exceptional woman fighter who could hold her own against any of the male slaves he owned. Despite all the arranged matches, no man was able to beat her, and the crowd was getting bored with the evening's entertainment.
One day, the owner came up with a scheme where the woman and one of his best male fighters were pitted against a huge (and ravenous) male lion in the arena. Given very little weaponry to defend themselves, nonetheless the two got their licks in before the lion decided to concentrate his attention to the woman. Amidst the cheers of the bloodthirsty spectators, the lion devoured the unfortunate woman while unexpectedly leaving the man alone.
Afterwards when the man returned to his quarters, his comrades there remarked how lucky he was to have escaped death at the "hands" of the beast. "I'm not sure why that lion eventually settled on her and let me go," said the fighter, "but I'm Gladiator!

She was found in an elaborate wooden coffin, reinforced with iron straps and copper strips, which indicate her importance. maybe they just wanted to make damn good and sure that she was going to stay in the coffin.
