RD, maybe you can tell me why this happened: when I pulled my zukes up, the soil was full of ants. Any ideas?
Oops, forgot to say my plants are all in containers.
Did y’all look real close and see if the squash has aphids?
That one-pound Gold Medal tomato I picked the other day was 'guest of honor' on a couple of BLT's this evening...
No aphids here!
I am sorry to report that I have lost the battle of the Blueberries with nary a shot fired as I found Mark Geragos pnone number and eMail address written on the garden shed wall with bright red Crayola...
Pinging me!
I used my home made pepper, garlic, onion, spray, and only see one or two now and then. Hubby said the ants weren't the problem, but he couldn't tell me what was going on.
So I buried 1/2 banana peel in each pot, fertilized with Miracle Grow all purpose vegetable product, and clipped off the yellow leaves. I don't have a clue what I'm doing, but figured it could have been nutritional. My first thought was aphids, but I did not think the insects looked like pictures I have seen of aphids.
So far, there have been no new yellow leaves. We had 2 short rain showers today, so I'll probably have to use the pepper spray again tomorrow.
I planted 2 seeds in each pot, and they all came up. I gave the extras away to kin-folk to transplant. My radishes have been full of some sort of bugs since day one, but they seemed to do ok anyway. I don't care that much for radishes anyway, so I just spray my other stuff and let the radishes go.
I didn’t see any aphids, either.
Greeneyes, tell me more about that spray you made, please.
Store it in the refrigerator or freezer. Take 1 part mixture to 3 parts water, and squirt on plants-include under the leaves.
I thought it would be a good repellent, but it is more than that. Right after I whipped it up, I saw a water bug, and squirted a little of the undiluted mix on it. Within 30 seconds, it turned belly up and died.
I use it sparingly in the garden, because I don't want to hurt the beneficial bugs, but I figure it's got to be better than pesticides. I don't hesitate to use it on critters crawling into the basement.
I took a qt of water, a whole garlic bulb, an onion, and about 2 Tablespoons of cayenne pepper, put it into a blender till chopped up. Added a Tablsspoon of Dish washing liquid.
Store it in the refrigerator or freezer. Take 1 part strained mixture to 3 parts water, and squirt on plants-include under the leaves.

Ok, I have a problem with most of my tomatoes. Limbs/leaves turning brown/black from the ground up. Progressing up the whole plant. Never had this problem before and it’s gotten nearly all my tomatoes so far :( They’re still living but only half the plant is still green (the top half).
Any ideas?
It’s been very hot here until the past week and now it’s only in the lower 90’s. We’ve had pretty good rainfall amounts also.
It sounds like Late Blight and it is the end of your tomato production this year if I am correct. It happens to potatoes also...
A cold front came through yesterday. It got down to 39F last night. Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park was closed due to heavy snow.
LOL!
I picked ONE...let me repeat that...ONE...blueberry this morning, LOL!
Thanks a bunch! Since I already have all those ingredients on hand, I’m going to try it right away.
I meant I will try it right away on my pepper plants, since the squash and cukes are gone. Something has been eating away on 3 of them, and so far Sevin dust has not worked at all.
