She hasn't even been officially confirmed as having the role, but Angelina Jolie is already receiving criticism over her possible portrayal of the legendary Queen of the Nile.
Jolie, who turned 35 last week, is caught up in a racially charged debate over whether the role should have been played by a black woman

but they don’t attempt to appropriate western civ history so much?
good point comparing Mongols and North American Indians
who were related btw
Yes - Her family was not black in anything but the new racists’ imagination.
I tried to picture Malcolm X in my mind and he always seemed to look like any other African American.
I finally looked it up and some pictures look like he has blond hair and others jet black. Others in between.
In none of them does he have wavy hair.
I remember Redd Fox was supposed to have red hair.
To say that Malcolm X had red wavy hair is simply a false. that is not fact or conjecture, simply a lie.
Now that I think back, I remember there being a bit of a fuss over her semi-nude scene. Remember the part where she’s laying on her stomach on the table, getting a massage? I can also remember being a bit shocked at the scene where she and Rex Harrison are in bed, and she takes his hand and puts it on her breast, then slides it down to her hips. I was 16 at the time.
The Egyptians themselves said their founding dynasties were out of Nubia, do you doubt them?
Why would they lie?
Yes the Egyptians would and did lie but I doubt they were doing so when they discussed the early dynasties. They sometimes described Nubians as similar to what we would call sub-saharan Africans and at other times they were clearly not.
The area of the Sudan was mostly what they called Nubia and that was at the time not Black. They used Nubia sort of like we use African. It can mean a lot of different things.
The people you show depicted as having Negroid features are usually, maybe always depicted as slaves or with leopard skins etc. These are clearly not the same people depicted as early rulers.
BTW, I have never seen a picture of Malcolm X with wavy hair.

Don't expect facts of history and the truth to make any impression on the ignorant people pushing to turn a white European queen into a black African. There is no way to reason with such ignorance.
“Wasn’t Cleopatra ethnically Greek, i.e., a white woman?”
Yes. Up until she came along, everyone in the royal Egyptian household spoke nothing but Greek...or whatever they spoke in those days. She was the first one who not only spoke Greek, but she spoke 8 other different languages total of 9 to include whatever the natives spoke on the street.
She has always been painted as an airhead. Actually she was very smart. She was caught in an historical vise as she tried to save her country.
You’re right. I’d prefer Jennifer Aniston in the part, anyway.
Yes, let’s have an actress who can’t act as opposed to one who can.
But the point is there's a major racial divide between the people in North Africa vs. Central and Sub Saharan Africa. I've been to Cairo and on the streets you will see faces that are not really Arab, and certainly not "black", but look, especially around the eyes, like they walked right off of a tomb wall painting.
The people who are objecting to someone as beautiful (and "exotic" looking) as Angelina Jolie playing the role of Cleopatra because they think all "Africans" look like them (most American blacks are partly white and their African appearance is that of West Africa, i.e. Nigeria, Ghana, etc.) are incredibly ignorant and as racist as the biggest loon the KKK ever produced.
No. A pretty one as opposed to a skag.
Are you a Palin supporterr? Philosophy seems to be about right.
You know nothing of my philosophy.
I just don’t like AJ. Not on looks, personality, character, or talent.
If you do, that’s not my problem.
One of the funniest lines Mr. T said on “A-Team” was when Hannibal disguised himself as a black man. He said to “T” that black is beautiful. Mr. T said “Not on you”!
