Flag protocol says that if you have a mounted flag that won't go to half staff, you tie a black ribbon at the top of the pole to indicate the half staff status. I've kept my flag with its long black streamers ever since this administration took office. Normally I fly my Gadsden, but when I fly Old Glory, she flies in mourning, partially to honor the troops we've lost in Iraq and Afghanistan and partially for the state of the country.
