A commonly occurring phenomenon seen in the folklore and myth of a wide range of cultures throughout the world is the existence of miniature humanoid creatures. Faeries, dwarves, leprechauns, or by whatever other names they are known, mysterious little people of various types have consistently emerged as important elements of folklore across the globe since time unremembered.

On the island of Hokkaido, in the cold northern reaches of the Japanese archipelago, the indigenous Ainu people too have their long traditions of an ancient race of dwarf-like people thought to have inhabited the land long before humans arrived.

"Most Japanese tend to look down on the Ainu."

The Ainu should not feel singled-out. Japan is an amazingly racist society.

I recall a flurry of reports about two decades ago when it was alleged that, based on some sort of genetic research, the Japanese Royal Family had Ainu origins. It caused quite the hullabaloo over there.

" Wasn’t there some similarities between the Basque ans Ainu Languages?"

Funny you should ask.

In a recent study conducted by the Columbia University Registrar's Office at a cost to taxpayers of $138MM (funded through the stimulus bill) the conclusion was reached that both the Basque and Ainu languages use words.

(The use of words is something these languages do not have in common with BHO's Columbia transcript, held by that self-same office.)
