Losing friends over Palin (Have you ever lost friends over politics ?)

Posted on 05/31/2010 9:46:47 PM PDT by se_ohio_young_conservative

I have lost THREE real life friends now in trying to defend Sarah Palin. On one hand I tend to think the people who call her stupid are not the kind of people I even want as friends anyhow. However, I wonder if im being too harsh and going too far.

I know our country was divided on President Bush. But the division and the hatred for Sarah Palin has been able to top anything. Before Palin, I had a much more positive outlook on people (especially women, mothers, ect) and life in general. Now I find myself seeing people through a totally different lens.

I understand why I am so outraged as a husband and father of two girls. But what is wrong with WOMEN in this country ? they have really let Sarah Palin and her family down by not standing up enough and drawing a line in the sand.

Anyone who supports abortion is not a good person. There is no way they could be.

. I don’t know how women who support abortion can also be “good mothers”. Thats a contradiction.

Let me give you an example then: I know a woman who says she's pro-choice. Yet, when faced with a potentially lethal pregnancy of her own, she chose to take the risk, wore a heparin pump for 7 months, stayed on bed rest, and despite a blood clot and a couple of scary hemorrhages that were controlled, but not without permanent damage, gave birth to a baby girl.

See, to you, she's a bad mother because she claimed to be pro-choice. To me, actions speak louder than words, and despite her obligatory liberal claim of being pro-choice, she's really not. Her actions speak louder than any woman who claims to be pro-life but has never been tested.

Actually, my FRiend, it appears it is you who have missed the point. When I present my position(s) so convincingly (and I do) the other party does not "walk away believing I am wrong". They walk away feeling defeated. I know this to be true because I have been told so many times.

At any rate, I can see you have your strong opinion on this matter and I'm more than happy to accept that you're convinced you're right even though you've never been present during the many dabates in which I've partaken. We do have some lively conversations at Thanksgiving and other gatherings but that's part of being a black conservative and I can live with it.

Cheers.

Did your friends push the issue, or did you?
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Actually, I did not push, and the liberals didn’t push me. I simply walked away from the friendship.

The 2000 Florida recount did it for me. It was then that I realized the Democrats were really vicious Marxists. They would literally do anything to gain power. At that point I realized that liberals ( who are really Marxists) were too stupid or too evil to have as friends.

“Sarah was wrong to support John McCain for re-election for Senator.”

“Why you SOB low life Liberal Left wing wing-nut commie sympathizing hater!!!!!!!”

It’s surprising how many people think the second comment here is the reasoned one.

Actually I had no conscious intention to screen but seemed to not be attracted to liberals in general...I tend to like my friends to be responsible and honest..two attributes adult liberals are sorely lacking. I do have an acquaintance who is a Barry supporter who is actually starting to see the light. My conservative sister on the other hand is about up to her eyeballs with a liberal longtime friend...may not last.

U said, My SIL likes to play this trick at work—She goes into work and tells her Obama loving coworkers, “Did you hear that stupid thing that Sarah Palin said?” Then she recites the stupid thing. She then says, “Oh wait a minute! Nevermind, that was Barack Obama!”

= = =
Good one. TFS.

Oh my. One of us definitely has an emotional investment here. I don’t have any emotional investment in this issue. I think Palin isn’t electable; my preference would be someone like Jim DeMint or Mitch Daniels. But I remain fascinated by the phenomenon of Palin-hate.

I don't think Palin is electable either. So, what's your problem?

Do you want another four years of Obama because most American voters are more scared of Incompetent Palin than they are scared of Incompetent Obama?

I don't think Jim DeMint or Mitch Daniels are electable either. They have as much national name recognition as your mother-in-law's pet cat. Come back down to the Planet Earth.

Where does "hate" fit into this?

I love my little sister but my little sister is as unqualified to be President of the United States as Sarah Palin is.

Tell me, truthfully:

If Sarah Palin would have been born a male named "Robert", would "Robert Palin", with two and a half years of experience (before he quit) as Governor of a State with half the population of San Diego, CA, been given a second thought as a Vice Presidential candidate?

NO. He would not have been.

Without looking it up on Wikipedia, tell me the name of the current Mayor of San Diego, California.

You can't. (Isn't that correct?)

Yet, that white, male Republican, Mayor Jerry Sanders, has been a Mayor of a political entity with TWICE the population of the State of Alaska and he has served FAR longer than Sarah Palin (because he did not quit in the middle of his firat term) , but nobody has ever heard of him outside of Southern California because he is not female.

Why have you heard about Barack Obama and about Sarah Palin when Mayor Jerry Springer has much more experience than EITHER Barack Obama or Sarah Palin?

Because we live in the Age of Affirmative Action. Today, what matters is not is not experience or competence but whether you are NOT a white male.

Hate?

Don't think so.

I would have no problem with Sarah Palin being my sister-in-law.

Be that as it may, the Presidency of the United States is way over her head just as the Presidency of the United States is way over the head of Barack Obama.

We already have an Affirmative Action President that is putting the survival of the United Sates in the 21st Century in serious doubt.

Two Affirmative Action President in a row and we should just bend over and kiss our collective @ss "Good Bye".

What SHOWS in Sarah Palin, be she a graduate or a drop out or a Rhodes Scholar, is that she did not learn very much and is "woefully uninformed" to the point that “She still didn’t really understand why there was a North Korea and a South Korea.”

Is that a Steve Schmidt quote you are using?

HEILEMANN: Her foreign policy tutors are literally taking her through, ‘this is World War I, this is World War II, this is the Korean War, this is the – how the Cold War worked, this is the new war on terror.’ They’re trying to teach her everything, because Steve Schmidt had gone to them and said, ‘she knows nothing.’ A week later, after the convention was over, she still didn’t really understand why there was a North Korea and a South Korea. She was still regularly saying that Saddam Hussein had been behind 9/11. And, literally, the next day, her son was about to ship off to Iraq. And when they asked her who her son was going to fight, she couldn’t explain that.

Regurgitating red meat to the faithful only goes so far.

A serious candiadate for the Presidency of the United States needs to have heard about the Yalta Conference in high school and not from her "foreign policy tutors" when she is running for the Vice Presidency of the United States.

We already have a disasterous Affirmative Action President. America will not stomach a second one in a row.

You're the one screaming in all caps on this thread. So, as I've said, you have the emotional investment here. Let me remind you of the subject of the thread, as I consider thread hijacking rude and ignorant: It has to do with relations with friends re: Palin.

I have a big, big problem when the culture decides to run an ongoing Two Minutes Hate campaign against Republicans, so I defend Palin when people start to foam at the mouth with hatred over her. As you did when you trotted out those bull***t Steve Schmidt quotes. That's it.

Come back down to the Planet Earth.

And vote for....um, who, exactly? Mitt? He is the least electable Republican in America including the ones currently in prison. People who aren't Mormons hate him. The borderline socialist Huckabee? Please. You're being coy about who you actually do support here, which does not give me great confidence in the list of candidates who meet your high standards.

Further, you demand "name recognition" while pulling your dress over your head about the Republican with the highest name recognition in America (Palin). You alternately demand either "qualifications" or "name recognition" when it suits your argument against whoever I seem to like at the moment, while not daring to admit whatever Messiah you support.

Because anyone who hates on her as much as some of the liberals do is not worth being a friend with.

I think so...you can disagree with her politically but to truly hate her you have to have something wrong between the ears...nothing she has done would lead to anyone's hate who is mentally healthy.

You're the one screaming in all caps on this thread.

Please point out what you consider "screaming in all caps".

Would you have prefered that I had used < U > or < I > to emphaphasize a point?

Is that the totality of your rebuttal to my geo-political arguments?

Style?

Let me remind you of the subject of the thread ....

Ummmm ... the title of this thread is , "Losing friends over Palin (Have you ever lost friends over politics ?) ".

Correct me if I am wrong but, isn't the title of this thread directly connected to the worship of Sarah Palin that you are now exibiting?

Sarah Palin is a Conservative ...... So what? ALL Free Republic members ( I am only two years junior to you on Free Republic) fit that criteria.

Sarah Palin had to be spoon-fed what the Yalta Conference was. Most educated members of Free Republic would consider that pretty pathetic.

I have a big, big problem when the culture decides to run an ongoing Two Minutes Hate campaign against Republicans

"The Republicans"?

Listen, Junior, I have no idea how old you are, and I really don't really give a rat's @ss, but I have supported every Republican candidate since Nixon ran against JFK in 1960.

Grow up, Junior,

For all his faults, Richard M. Nixon was light-years ahead of pin-up girl, Sarah Palin, in regards to being President of the United States.

Further, you demand "name recognition" while pulling your dress over your head about the Republican with the highest name recognition in America (Palin).

POSITIVE name recognition will get you elected to the White House.

Ummmm ..... Junior... NEGATIVE "name recognition" and a quarter will not buy you a cup of coffee.

Poll: Most Don't Want Sarah Palin to Run for President

The bottom line, Junior, is, "Do you want to win the White House in November of 2012" (with anybody but Palin) or do you want to have a schoolboy crush on a middle-aged pin-up girl that is guaranteed to get Obanma reelected?

And vote for....um, who, exactly? Mitt?

America has a population of over 300 million.

If America cannot come up with a better choice than an Affirmative Action candidate for two elections in a row, then America is simply too stupid to survive the 21st Century.

Once again you lack the guts to say who exactly you support.

At this point all you can do is recite the same catatonic mantra over and over again, which does not a dialogue make. Done with you.

One thing to consider when putting Obama and Palin on the same level.

One of them believes in the Constitution, and one of them doesn't.

Palin could do no worse than Obama or even Bush for that matter, and probably a damn sight better than Obama.

I have to wonder exactly what qualifies someone to be President anymore and I don't see anyone on our side that has a clue right now besides Palin.

I do know the one big disqualification is being a Democrat. They are enemies of the Republic, every damn one of them.
