Vanity- Looking for a TV series on DVD to begin watching. Any suggestions?
5/24/10 | Alienand stranger

I don’t watch TV, but I own a few series on DVD that I watch in order to avoid commercials and to watch on my own time.

I’m looking for something that doesn’t insult my spiritual or political (Christian Conservative) beliefs. And I don’t want comedies that exist on juvenile sexual innuendoes.

I love and own the first five seasons of LOST and THE OFFICE. I have the first two seasons of 24, but quit when I saw that the producers are too cowardly to depict Muslim terrorists not backed by white corporate types as the bad guys. I also have BAND OF BROTHERS and the first 10 seasons of THE SIMPSONS.

I was thinking of getting the first season of SCRUBS except I’m uncomfortable watching with my 16 year old daughter because of the frequent sexual situations.

I heard good things about CHUCK.

Any suggestions for a series I can get into?

Twin Peaks? No
Rocky and Bullwinkle? Yes

Any of the old Warner Brothers/Hanna-Barbera cartoons would be fine with me.

I really liked “The Unit” and “Flashpoint” is also really good.

I vote for Babylon 5, also. Watch it from the beginning for the story arc.

Another interesting show...

TopGear...

People initially think it is a guy show and in a way it is because it is focused on the automobile, however the show is much more than that, great cinematography, really funny stories and situations.

Typical British humor in many regards but truly a joy to watch especially if you have HDTV.

I believe it is the most watch show in this history of TV now, suprassing even Mash.

Second that! I need to get ‘John Adams’ out and watch it again now that ‘Lost’ is over, LOL.

Missed this “I’m looking for something that doesn’t insult my spiritual or political (Christian Conservative) beliefs”

Skip Dollhouse then, though it does bring up a lot of moral questions (not typical Q’s). Not sure if Jericho would insult your beliefs.

Royal Pains on Fox begins soon. It is funny and something of a spoof of the high and mighty and corrupt New Yorkers (including those that can’t be named).

Also, pretty soon on TNT I think the Closer will resume before too long. It is a transplanted Atlanta female chief detective in LA.

I don’t think either is political

“King of the Hill”. The most conservative show in years, and the first five seasons had some of the best comedy writing I’ve seen in ages.

Jag-it’s the forerunner to NCIS. It’s sometimes cheesy, but has a good, solid American hero.

Firefly- Just one season, but fun.

Monk- Never watched it, but my wife really liked it.

You might try the Horatio Hornblower series of TV movies made for A&E.

There were eight 2-hour movies that follow the career of Hornblower from mid-shipman to commander.

Think of it as a tame Master and Commander times eight.
