CUPERTINO, California, May 18, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple Computers, says his company will not be a party to the pornography industry and hopes that the iPad and iPhone revolution will help lead to a porn-free world.
Jobs reiterated his position in a heated e-mail exchange with Ryan Tate, a writer for Gawker.com, which follows news and gossip in Silicon Valley and elsewhere. Tate, who admitted that he was home alone and slightly inebriated at the time, took issue with a television ad calling the iPad a revolution and fired off an e-mail to Jobs.
If Dylan [American songwriter Bob Dylan is one of Jobs favorite musicians] was 20 today, how would he feel about your company? Would he think the iPad had the faintest thing to do with revolution? Revolutions are about freedom, Tate wrote, not expecting a response from Jobs.
However, Jobs did respond to Tate, triggering an e-mail duel. Yep, freedom from programs that steal your private data. Freedom from programs that trash your battery. Freedom from porn. Yep, freedom, responded Jobs. The times they are a changin, and some traditional PC folks feel like their world is slipping away. It is.
However, Tate accused Jobs of "imposing" his "morality" by having Apple forbid pornographic applications for iPad. I dont want freedom from porn. Porn is just fine! And I think my wife would agree, fired back Tate - who later said he regretted mentioning his wife.
Jobs shot back, You might care more about porn when you have kids.

Okay... so MAC users don’t pay more for the same PC (equivalent) that Windows PC users... You will have to show be some charts on that one...

One of the biggest savings that results in the lower TCO is the ability to get rid of a lot of the IT department... and WHO gets to select what computers your company buys?

I know you don’t get it yet, but it is all about marketing. Apple sells peripherals because it has the Apple logo - they discourage all other items. Surely you recognize that?

You are making a mistake. Apple sells third party peripherals at their stores for Apple computers. "Third Party" = made by other manufacturers ... with other companies' logos on them. They are sold competitively.
Names like HP, Canon, Sony, Sanyo, XM, Yamaha, Bowers & Wilkins, Griffen, Creative, Bose®, Harmon Karden, JBL. Shure, Sennheiser, Epson, Lexmark, Samsung, Western Digital, LaciE, Iomga, Crucial, G-Technology, Drobo, Eye-Fi, Verbatim, Promise, Tandberg, RocketRaid, NVIDIA, GForce, to name a few... none of them Apple products, and all of them priced competitively with stores such as Best Buy ... as well as Apple's computers.
And now you devolve to ad hominem. The last resort of the loser of a debate.

I've been a Mac user since 1988, and can honestly say this is untrue. Prior to the advent of the Apple Store, I bought via websites and catalogs, run by companies that also have or had parallel sites or titles for the PC world. You sound as if you're comparatively new on the scene, here. I still buy from these sources for planned purchases, provided that the price is compelling.
I've gone to the Apple Store to check out new products in person. I've gone to the local one to buy something I absolutely *had* to have, right then. But, I still shop prices for planned purchases, just as anyone can and most do.
I view the Apple Store as a necessary development for Apple, in order to reach the buying public in a postiive manner. You may not be old enough to recall, but there was a time not long ago, when whatever mess of a PC retailer that *deigned* to carry Apple at all, stuck it in the back corner of the store, with MS geeks who didn't understand the product at all for clerks. The product was in utter disarray, oftentimes deliberately disabled by PC apparatchiks. It was that bad.
Apple was forced into retailing by this reality. Now, it's such a multi-billion dollar retail phenom that people forget that fact, but it definitely was the case. I lived it.
Now, envision the Windows store, lol. Well, you don't really have to envision it, it's ubiquitous to this day in any retailer that carries electronics.
This is the environment that fostered Apple's wildly successful foray into retailing. This is also the environment that necessitated the Apple Store online, all the online presence and dedicated retail presence that you now want to condemn because it's working so very well.
I am challenging you to name those peripherals that Apple sells with the Apple Logo and what peripherals they discourage. You don't know what you are talking about... you really don't know.
I've listed the Apple Logo'd peripherals a few posts back... there really are not that many. So exactly how is Apple going about this again? Where is all this marketing? Have you actually gone into an Apple store and had the Apple Specialists foist these peripherals off on you? I will tell you that I have been there... and heard the specialists tell a customer that his Mac would work just fine with a LinkSys WiFi Router (true)... but the Airport would be easier to set up (also true). AND I have seen an Apple Genius Bar genius help a person SET UP a NetGear Router... brought in from outside... with his MacBook for free. So exactly WHERE is this discouragement from using "all other items?????

You are NOT the normal Apple shopper and you know it. Most of Apple’s buyers are tied to Apple and buy their peripherals. You are the unusual buyer...

Of course all products that are “Apple approved” seem to be so much more expensive. Not going to let that bother you I’m sure. They only okay those products - no profits to Apple, right?
