1. Help Rig Half Moon, Weekends in April 17/18 & 24/25
Volunteer crew are needed the weekends of April 17/18 and 24/25 to help rig the Half Moon for seasonal sailing operations. Jennifer Reilly will manage the re-rig, and assign training and jobs according to ship needs. Rigging crew will muster at Peckham Wharf in Athens, NY, each Saturday morning, and work through Sunday afternoon. No experience necessary, jobs are available for people of all skill levels. Minimum time commitment is one full day; crew who work through the weekends may bunk aboard ship. Jobs to be undertaken will include maintaining and cleaning sails; bending on of sails; inspecting and organizing running rigging; rummaging ship (cleaning and organizing gear); minor repairs. Check in is mandatory in advance, as the ship is berthed at a secure facility. 2. Half Moon Underway to Peckham Wharf, Athens, NY
The Half Moon is underway from its winter berth at King Marine, Verplanck, to Peckham Wharf, Athens, NY. This is the first operation of the season, and appears to be fortuitous with a good weather forecast. Once at Peckham Wharf, crew will organize gear and secure the ship. The Half Moon will remain at Peckham for for a period of six to eight weeks for annual maintenance and capital improvements. It is not open to public visitation, but volunteers are needed for various jobs during this period. Keep an eye out for updates with volunteer opportunities.
3. Thanks to Outfitting Crew March 30/31
A big thanks is due to the hardy crew at King Marine, and our own dedicated volunteers for de-winterizing the Half Moon on March 30 and 31. The work moved efficiently thanks in large part to the great preparations of Paul Egel, who oversaw the Half Moon through the winter, and prepped the ship for the intensive two days of work. While heavy winds prevented the relocation of the Half Moon to its outer berth, all systems came on-line and tested to normal standards, thus ensuring that the ship will be ready to go on April 9. Thanks go to Randy King and his crew at King Marine, Paul Egel, Bob Hansen, Bonnie Talluto, Dave Brown, Woody Woodworth, Hans Segboer, and Cori Cummings (who was gracious in offering a warm place to sleep on a blustery weekend).

I saw this life sized replica of Henry Hudson's Halve Maen in Albany, NY, last Sept, during the 400th Anniversary of his sail up the Hudson River...
It was fun to go aboard and learn about his trip...
meet me in Kinderhook, Captain Hook!
For a moment there, I thought this had something to do with outhouse doors!
(am I showing my age, that I have used outhouses that were not chemical?)
Do you live in the area ???
I think you should be able to go down and see the ship...
Your kids will love it...
Its painted all different bright colors just like the original one was...
It was neat to see it and go onboard..I saw it at Albany, NY
Every Sept for about a week middle school students get to travel up river for a week on it, stopping at each place on the date and time that corelates to what Henry Hudson wrote in his ships log about his journey..
The school kids have been doing that for a few years...
They start down near the Battery and stop for the night at each place he stopped...all the way up to his turning around point at Albany, NY
They study history, navigation, etc as they go...
I dont know how they are selected but it would be more for local schools along the river I would think...
