Good evening!
A number of shocks have hit s. California this afternoon with the quakes probably centered in Mexico.
And....another season of baseball underway!
I know, the picture is beautiful. My yard looks like a meteor fell on it.
Ahhhh, just what I need to get my day started, we can always count on you lysie, to mzke our day.
Toby
The dark clouds moving in, rain predicted, trash day today, hauled out to he street a big load, and now to rest.
Got to tell all, I am so proud of the two adoted foster children SIL and D adopted, they help keep my day full and happy. Yeo, the sure do, go into the back yard and head straight to PawPaws house cause they know the sweets are here for them. Two fine looking boys.
Toby
So cute!!!
Prayers for the trapped miners in KY! Sure does not look good but not all is lost until the final word comes to us.

Got to be a better method, I am reading three books at one time, read one a little, the next a little and then the third a little.

Went to the Washington Nationals home opener on Monday. Seemed more like the Philadelphia Phillies home opener. Especially considering some 60% of the fans were from there, not Washington.
And considering we lost 11-1, probably the right mix.
But why did we lose?
Could it have been the POTUS wore a Chicago White Sox ball cap while throwing out the first pitch at a Washington Nationals ball game?
Could it have been that he gave his "Miss America" wave to the two biggest concentrations of Philly fans in the stadium?
Or was he demonstrating to the National's pitching staff (they have one?) that the correct way to pitch is to miss outside by at least 10 feet.
You would think, for just a few moments, he could have pretended to be a Nats fan.
Oh, sorry, forgot - it's all about him.
It's all about him disarming the Nation. Expecting to get reciprocity from the Rooskies ("no, B, sorry, we're going to take a pass on that disarmament thing, but you can go right ahead)? Expecting to make Iran tremble at the thought of the entire (well, almost--I suppose four warheads are aimed at N Korea, one each for Dear Leader, Son of Dear Leader, Mistress of Dear Leader, and Wife of Dear Leader...) nuclear arsenel being made available for his country ("no, B, sorry, "wait until your sweat dries and you get some experience" [ACTUAL QUOTE!]). Well, that worked out well, didn't it? Don't you just feel safer now that we cannot threaten our enemies?
Or how about the race to the bottom in the housing market? How's that working out? Yep, going to entice banks to set a bid floor for short sales, with the requirement that the first bid over the floor must be accepted, by giving banks 3 grand for each so completed transaction. Sounds nice, but what about property values? Decline in property values don't lock in until either a comp sells or your neighbor sells and the transaction is consumated. Short sales will do that, and now the Gummit has encourage that activity. Which will feed on itself. More property values will go down. More people will go under water. More banks will do short sales. More property values go down, and so on. You lose, the banks win (gee, and here I thought the POTUS was for putting the banks in their place!). But you lose TWICE! What else is based on property value? Ding, I know - property taxes! The rates will have to go up because local governments will see a cash drain based on declining values. And do you think those rates will go down later? Of course not - got to spread that wealth around. And guess what that does! Yep - depresses real estate values more. Where do I get off the merry go-round?? Doesn't anyone in this administration understand basic economics? Oh, wait, they do - it's called the economics of special interests and lobbyists (so much for their eradication, huh?)
And what about those folks wanting their free health care? That's probably next - well actually it is. Sorta kinda. It'll be the Government run single payer public option free of health health care system. And the big insurance companies are lining up to push us there with Obamacare? Why not? Don't forget how the Executive Branch spends money - only one way: through contracts. You see, with the public option, you would be buying THROUGH some bureaucrat, but the service would be provided by a contractor. And who would that be - well the big insurance companies, who else? And they would have a guaranteed monopoly because of their contract. Sweet. They win. You lose. (So much for the POTUS actually looking out for us.)
So, back to baseball...
The POTUS seeks to make things safer by negotiating a nuclear arms treaty with the Russians, but only disarms America. Strike one.
The POTUS seeks to instill confidence in home ownership by allowing folks to get out from bad mortgages, but only by ensuring there will be even more bad mortgages. Strike two.
The POTUS seeks to make health insurance work for the little guy but sets up a system that, in the end, will only benefit big insurance while screwing over patients. Strike three.
He's out.
Election day cannot get here fast enough.
That is a sweet picture and looks like a future Republican voter.
I wonder how many coal mines the muslim in the whitehouse is going to close down, after this disaster. Remember he promised to close down the coal mines, during his campaign?
He will NOT!!
The smolder is now a flame!
Plus, get your #ss outta baseball bam...it’s America’s pastime...You know nothing about it!! You better not mess with apple pie and hot dogs..Oh wait..Michelle is doing that.
He won't close a single one. Seriously. He won't.
However, they will close themselves down.
It'll go something like this:
1. United Mine Workers (part of the AFL/CIO, if I'm not mistaken), point out the need for increased safety in the mines. After all, who can be against ensuring that our mines are safe for the workers.
2. UMW petitions management for redress of grievances. Management says they understand and will work with the union. The UMW doesn't buy it. Notifies AFL/CIO.
3. Exchange of letters between AFL/CIO and the POTUS indicating the serious nature of mine work and that safety should be a prime consideration of the POTUS.
4. POTUS responds to AFL/CIO that he agrees mine safety is important, but that it needs to be dealt with at the appropriate time.
5. AFL/CIO communicates to UMW that "energy needs to be put into the issue of mine safety when engaging management."
6. UMW writes to management saying is in default of contract by failing to provide "even the most rudimentary safety for workers."
7. UMW receives letter from management saying it is willing to work with them on the issue. UMW rejects the offer, saying that the health and well being of its workers "is not negotiable."
8. UMW tells its membership that managemenet doesn't care about worker safety.
9. UMW memberships calls strike vote, which passes.
10. Further negotiations prove fruitless, UMW strikes.
11. The POTUS shuts down the strike, citing National Security.
12. AFL/CIO writes the POTUS, saying that "worker safety" is an important concern.
13. The POTUS confers with House and Senate leadership, saying that "significant parties with strong interests in the matter are demanding Federal legislation to deal with the issue of mine safety improvements."
14. The POTUS writes AFL/CIO: "We agree, mine worker safety is a paramount issue within my administration. Nothing deserves more attention that this. But now is not the time for you to take action."
15. Legislation is introduced that creates the "Mine Employees Safety, Security and Industrial Accident and Health (MESSIAH) Fund." To ensure appropriate capitalization of this fund, each employer must contribute $30,000/capita to the account per annum.
16. The POTUS writes the AFL/CIO - "we are reviewing all possible options to address your concerns viz mine safety."
17. On a party line vote, Congress approves sending the MESSIAH to the POTUS.
18. The POTUS signs off on the MESSIAH, proclaiming the good word to a weary Nation and that HE has solved the mine safety problem "once and for all".
19. Mine companies around the country announce hugh charges against income in their 10Q statements.
20. Mine companies announce they can no longer continue operation because the MESSIAH has spoken and forced them to close.
QED.
The repairman came and ...of all things...we have a computer board in the back of our fridge....and one on top too!??
Anyway, the circuit board on the back was zapped, he showed me the burned place...(& we've been having a lot of 'surges' lately)
..so all he had to do was replace the computer circuit with a new one...
...and lo and behold, the fridge kicked in and is running great!
That’s great!
Wow!! It’s gorgeous. Thanks for the info. Mr HOB will just have to plant it. I have three rose “trees” that are quite beautiful, but this one is spectacular.
You should make a trip to Walmart or Sams and get surge protectors. The come in different configurations. Some single, some multiple plugs. Your computer, printer etc. etc should certainly have them. We never think of having them for small appliances and most of the time don’t need to—but it is certainly needed in Florida.
I know you are up in the air somewhere, but I meant to mention to you that I read an article in the Daily Caller naming the 100 most liberal counties in the US. Lake County was in there. I grew up in Lake County and it was as conservative as you could get. My youngest lives there now and it is indeed a liberal enclave :(
Husband will get some on the way home from work.
Here's why.
Most surge protectors protect with something called a Metal Oxide Semiconductor, or MOS. This little thing, about the size of your thumbnail (in both size and depth) is all that stands between your equipment and getting fried in a surge.
But - IMPORTANT - how does it work? The eletric overload is shunted by the MOS to ground and in the process the MOS is fried. Basically, the MOS basically sacrifices itself so that your equipment can continue on, as if nothing ever happened.
If the implication of that hasn't hit, I'll say it another way: your surge protector has but one life to give for the protection of its connected equipment. The MOS gets fried with the first significant spike of electricity.
After the MOS is gone, there isn't a circuit to shunt an overload to ground anymore. So where does it go? Yep - your attached equipment has now become the surge protector!
And therein lies the problem. Most surge protectors (and almost all the cheap ones) have no indication that the MOS has given up its life - and, frankly, high transients (spikes) aren't always noticible as you go about your daily business (also, many mild high transients could also fry the MOS, leading to the same state). This means you have no way of knowing, looking at your inexpensive surge protector, whether you are protected or not. Very likely you are not - but you think you are. Then the equipment gets fried, and you curse the surge protector (when it had already done it's one time job and did it well, once before).
Answer? TrippLite has a little LED on many of their surge protectors saying "protected". The circuit board is such that if the MOS is present, you get an indication - if it's not you'll know. The other, expensive, answer is The Brick (it doesn't use MOS technology, but rather a full eletrical shunt) which won't fail. (This is not a plug for The Brick, per se - I use TrippLite.)
Another answer - for lightning protection (doesn't work for electrical transients eminating from generating stations): a full, 1MV-rated shunt outside the house at point of electrical penetration.
Another call from school today. Oh my, incorrect and stunning comments made during history class while studying WWII and Hitler.
If I was allowed that kid would get his hiney spanked.
