Next Month you can buy a Texas Town.
He's tried.
For two years, Moody Anderson has attempted to sell the Texas "ghost town," The Groves. Even had it up on eBay. There were no takers. Fickle bunch, those eBay folks.
The Groves is a made up of five buildings, each containing hundreds of collector's items. We'll let Texas Escapes give a proper description:
"This is a very well preserved 1860s museum town full of authentic, articles and artifacts from that era. There is also written documentation of The Groves birth to its desertion in the 40s when TxDOT re-routed HWY 36 around the town by .02 of a mile - diverting the much needed traffic. In addition, 250,000 acres was acquired by the government for building Ft. Hood and later 50,000 acres were impounded to form Belton Lake. Then WWII took all the young men away to fight for God and Country. Not much was left after that.
The town well that was dug in the mid 1860's is still wet and has never been dry. Bands play every weekend depending on the weather and there are still residents that live here, though only a handful.
[Anderson] bought The Grove, Texas downtown, historical, business district in 1972 and has collected more historic artifacts than you can imagine (including a 40,000 year old mammoth tusk and tooth). Everything with the exception of about ten heirloom items convey with the sale."

Do you get mineral rights?
Ain’t it the truth! Maybe we should all pitch in, buy it, then seceed.
Interesting question. I doubt there is enough land to matter that much. Sub surface rights are not that available in a lot of transactions.
I thought it sounded familiar. I used to live in Temple. Pretty country. Right at the edge of the Balcones Escarpment. But don’t go there if you’re allergic to cedar. You’ll be sick about six months out of the year.
If I was rich I'd buy it and we could build a second capital. A ghost capital, complete with people, democrats & republican who take a lie detector test to prove they would protect our constitution. And they would be on the ready to run the country if we ever needed them, in case of a socialist, communist takeover in Washington.
It's not too far from Crawford, Texas ... see it in the upper right of the map.
I don’t think so ,,, get grants to buy back all those museum pieces http://www.nps.gov/history/hps/treasures/application.htm
Do you get mineral rights?
************************************
You get WATER ,, the town well , dug in the 1860’s has never run dry ,, capped by a 12 foot layer of rock it would appear to be an underground river...
Very interesting but I don’t want it. I have enough junk of my own that I have collected.

We'll take the town if we get to sample the BBQ
Oh, boy, have I found a way to win you over!
(because my entire existence has been geared toward winning you over).
:)
Too rich for my blood.
Wise precaution.
Would you believe that I live pretty close to The Grove? Same county! Weird story, eh?
Oooohhh, now I know what county you live in, now I’ll have to go to each and every house in the county with a boombox like that one scene in “Say Anything”. ;)
Well, of course the water’s never run dry! NOBODY is around to USE UP the water supply!
