Perriello is a leftist loon. Links, headlines, and snippets coming up. Miss Goode yet?
Would you like to try a once-a-WEEK ping? Just once a week to be pinged back here for the latest. Ask to be removed any time.
Not so simple if we have a conservative independent in the mix, as noted above.
Hurt voted for a tax hike in the leg. Taxes are a tip top issue for me so I’m highly displeased over that. Unfortunately there are a lot of Republicans voting for tax hikes on the state level.
But I don’t want to see Perriello reelected with 45% of the vote.
Hurt will vote at least 80-85% conservative if he wins. He’s hardly Dede Scuzzobama or Mark Kirk. If he’s disappointing in Washington he can be removed in the next primary.
I absolutely agree, but this district has an independent streak. I’m just pointing it out, FRiend. We might have a complicated race here. McKelvey has strong influence over two counties and he utterly despises Hurt. He had run ads of a Bill Clinton impressionist endorsing Hurt.
If McKelvey [a quarter of the primary votes] backs Jeff Clark, it could get ugly for Hurt and risk a split between conservatives.
Clark to run; McKelvey a wild card in 5th District

“Throughout his campaign, McKelvey was adamant he would not support Hurt and would instead throw his support behind a third-party candidate if he did not win. But late Tuesday night, an e-mail from McKelvey left things a little less clear.” [snip]
Yes this could be a big thing.
At least it appears Goode isn’t running. Goode would have likely done well enough as an indie to reelect Perriello.
I can confirm:
Virgil Goode not running in 2010
http://www2.wsls.com/sls/news/politics/article/virgil_goode_not_running_in_2010/42340/
[Goode filed to run in March. If he filed as a republican, Goode can’t run now — Sore Loser Law.]
There is a hint that Goode might also campaign for Jeff Clark. Goode is opposed to the radical homosexual agenda [Hurt is weak there], and I seriously doubt Goode is impressed with Hurt fiscally. Hurt is also weak on immigration. Heck, the more I ‘stink’ about it .... [never mind].
Bottom of that article [post 45]
Goode: “It is my hope and expectation that Republicans will nominate a conservative who will oppose the record deficits and debt of the current administration, will support secure borders and oppose amnesty for illegals, will recognize and reduce the huge threat that terrorists pose for our country, will support pro-life issues, and will support the traditional definition of marriage of one man and one woman.
“I look forward to supporting and working for that candidate in 2010.
The only thing that will do is gurantee that Perriello goes back to Washington.
I don’t blame you or other consrvatives for having qualms about Robert Hurt, but that vote isn’t the only vote he’s ever cast. If I’m not mistaken, his record as a whole is good. He’s not Lincoln Chafee.
“The only thing that will do is gurantee that Perriello goes back to Washington.”
Very well-stated. I don’t think that Robert Hurt should be judged on the basis of only one vote.
Right, it’s a risk. If conservatives unite around the moderate, we win. But will everyone do what we want?
Well, the phrase herding cats comes to mind. But there’s this in today’s RTD:
Reality is, the Tea Party has had some impact in some districts. The 5th isn’t one of them. If it were a different story, Hurt wouldn’t have won with such a huge margin.
It’s simple, send Hurt to DC, or send Perriello back.
I hear you, FRiend. But if the polls show Hurt behind a conservative, I’ll back the conservative.
My strategy will be to aim my fire at Perriello and let the chips fall.
Understood. I just don’t see that happening.
Probably right, FRiend.
Oh I agree. I’m saying despite that bad vote that I back him and I don’t think we should have a third party effort there, all it’s likely to do is help the rat. He’d be far from the worst Republican in the house, he’d probably be fine. If he’s not, there will be a primary in 2012.
Of course as Art suggests if Clark are whoever is actually outpolling Hurt down the stretch (and in effect “Scozzafavas” him) then I’d back that person. But unless perhaps if that person is Virgil Goode I can’t see it happening.
That’s his announcement from a year ago that he wasn’t running for the GOP nod. He said long after that he may run as or back an independent if Hurt won the GOP nod.
Right. I’ll just keep my research sites on Two Faced Tom.
Thank you for being on top of so much, FRiend. FRegards ....
