ZOT! Why the constant posts on religion?
None but me

Posted on 02/26/2010 11:53:37 PM PST by knowshon

I have always thought this was a great site to get great political info. I come here for political/journalistic references. If you are going to make your queries 'Religious,' why not go to the religious talking board. I have been slammed here on what people believe is my perceived religion. These were for comments which didnt mention religion, and didnt have religious overtones. I

Nonsense! It isn’t that way for our church.

- - - - - - - - -
Yes, but it IS the way in the LDS church. Christian churches are run entirely differently and their missionary work runs differently as well.

My comment was specifically about the LDS, based upon what I was taught and my experience and their own writings.

It was not a general comment about all churches.

It is a common assumption that just because a Christian church does something one way, or is transparent about their finances or has a certain motivation, or wouldn’t lie about their doctrines that the LDS church must be the same way about all those things. NEWSFLASH: They aren’t. I found out the hard way.

I gave a link to the numbers of where LDS is getting their converts.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

And...I bet Christian churches ( probably even **your** church) is have the most success in the same poor areas and the least amount of success in the wealthier areas and countries( Europe for instance). Is a “duh” necessary?

There is **plenty** to disagree about with the Mormon church. Really there is! But...If you stick to facts, and avoid stupid and nonsensical, unproven, distorted arguments like this, we will all have more success.

Not me...

Not even their own profit, Hinckley...

Not the same Jesus
“There are those outside the Church who say Latter-day Saints do not believe in the traditional Christ.

No, I don’t. The traditional Christ of whom they speak is not the Christ of whom I speak.”

– LDS President Gordon B. Hinckley (LDS Church News, June 20, 1998)

It is true that many of the Christian churches worship a different Jesus Christ than is worshipped by the Mormons.” – LDS publication, Ensign Magazine, May 1977, p. 26

There is “no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God”
- Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190

On October 9, 1859, Young said,
“From the day that the Priesthood was taken from the earth to the winding-up scene of all things, every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are — I with you and you with me. I cannot go there without his consent”
(Journal of Discourses 7:289).

“He (Joseph Smith) is the man through whom God has spoken... yet I would not like to call him a savior, though in a certain capacity he was a god to us, and is to the nations of the earth, and will continue to be.”
- Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:321

“You call us fools; but the day will be, gentlemen and ladies, whether you belong to this Church or not, when you will prize brother Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Living God, and look upon him as a god...”
- Herber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 5:88

“If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith]”
- (as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142)

Mormonism is not Christianity
1. Mormons can become gods and goddesses.
2. Goddesses will spend eternity in full submission to their god-husband.
3. Mormon women will give birth “forever and ever” to spirit-babies.
4. Mormon men can have multiple wives in heaven—eternal polygamy.
5. Heavenly Father is an exalted man who lives with his goddess wife, Heavenly Mother, on a planet near the great star Kolob.
6. American Indians are descendants of the wicked Lamanites, who were Israelites that God cursed with dark skin.
7. God the Father had sex with Mary to conceive Jesus, who is the half brother of Lucifer.
8. All Christian churches are an abomination.
9. Mormons need 4 secret handshakes to get into the Celestial heaven.
10. Joseph Smith revealed that the actual Garden of Eden is in Jackson County, Missouri.

Matthew 24:23-24
For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible.

Matthew 7:15
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.

Matthew 24:10-11
10. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other,
11. and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.

Mark 13:21-22
21. At that time if anyone says to you, `Look, here is the Christ!’ or, `Look, there he is!’ do not believe it.
22. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles to deceive the elect—if that were possible.

Luke 6:26
Woe to you when all men speak well of you, for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets.

Acts 13:6-7
6. They traveled through the whole island until they came to Paphos. There they met a Jewish sorcerer and false prophet named Bar-Jesus,
7. who was an attendant of the proconsul, Sergius Paulus. The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God.

2 Corinthians 11:12-14
12. And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about.
13. For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ.
14. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.

2 Corinthians 11:26
I have been constantly on the move. I have been in danger from rivers, in danger from bandits, in danger from my own countrymen, in danger from Gentiles; in danger in the city, in danger in the country, in danger at sea; and in danger from false brothers.

Galatians 2:4
[This matter arose] because some false brothers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves.

2 Peter 2:1
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves.

1 John 4:1
Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

Well that is what I think but, if you are not literate then you wouldn’t recognize it, as you couldn’t possibly have deductive reasoning at hand.

I’m OK with the religion posts, I just think that there should be a limit on how many word are included on the listings of most recent postings. It a PITA to roll through someone’s favorite 3000 words of Bible verses.

Perhaps so, however our converts of Sola fide and from those who have not heard God’s word and promise.

Mormons are co-opting converts to Christ and those are their largest converts.

Huge difference.

Do you have any link **proving** that the Mormon church specifically ( with determination) discriminates against the wealthy? [WT]

As for baptisms, I know in my denomination, that it is the wealthy who are the least likely to join our church. I bet this is true for other Christian churches. [WT]

- - - - - - - — -
It is an understandable leap of logic when asking for proof the LDS “discriminates against the wealthy” then in the next senctence talks about the wealthy not joining OTHER Christian churches. Sounded like you equate the two, and IIRC I have seen you defend the LDS before.

Just because you say something is stupid and unsupportable doesn’t make it so even if the facts are sourced as evidence by LDS writings, teachings and belief.

Proof of oppositional exigency is required on your part to even begin making a case.

Today after church a wonderful old man of God and I were talking about the strange things around world...

Earthquakes in divers places, tsunamis, the economy, Obama, etc...

He was talking about the prophecies and warnings that we have in the Bible about these things...

I have enough sense to just shut up and listen when a man or woman of God is expounding...

He began to talk of false prophets and mentioned Joseph Smith...

He said one time some young boys came to his house, didnt say much except Smith was a prophet and gave him a book of mormon...

He had heard about the mormons and didnt believe their religion...

He said out of curiosity he started to read the book of mormon and there was no mention of Jesus as Savior but it did say Joseph Smith was the savior...

I wanted to ask him where the bom said that but I thought well sufficent that he understood thats what the book was about...

He went on to say that when he got to that part he stopped reading and waited for the boys to come back...

sure enough here them were on his door step agin...

He told them that Joey Smith was not the savior but a liar...

and that only Jesus was the Savior...

He said they were not happy that he said that but too bad...

And NOOOOOOOOO I wasnt the one who mentioned mormons at the start...

He did...he was warning his listeners against a damnable cult, and other things that are happeninbg now...

and he said “we’ll be going home soon. Jesus is coming real soon”

:)
