I have always thought this was a great site to get great political info. I come here for political/journalistic references. If you are going to make your queries 'Religious,' why not go to the religious talking board. I have been slammed here on what people believe is my perceived religion. These were for comments which didnt mention religion, and didnt have religious overtones. I

I hear ya and I’m only at the Single A level with my conversion out of mormonism.

Take a deep breath, relax and then reconsider what you’re about to post or whether it even warrants a reply.

That’s the approach I’m trying to take.

Why wouldn’t someone who claimed to be a Christian NOT want to defend His name against those who malign it?

That is the approach I take most of the time in post of a debate/informative nature. And you know from my admonitions about leaving the disruptors be where I stand on getting into the mud.

Then there are times when the statement is so obviously dumb and the truth so obviously apparent it is a no brainer to swing a little out of the gate.

I think my trepidation is due to the years I spent defending mormonism and not knowing how to correctly do so as it relates to defending His name.

I know why I hesitate or don’t inject myself into some of the discussions, ignorance. That’s why I read a lot of what is posted and only jump in when it’s something I’m sure of.

You can put a list of articles for any Keyword on your main FR page. Click on any Keyword...on the resulting page go to near the bottom of the page, on the right side, and click on “Add to My Page”.

Then click on “Account” at top of main FR page...then click on “Manage Blocks” (a.k.a. “My Page Layout”) ... look for the line “Keyword: ________” and choose the location where you would like a list of articles with that Keyword to be displayed on your main FR page. When finished choosing, click the “Modify” button at the bottom of the page.

You can change it back or further modify it anytime on the “My Page Layout” page. (I have the Banglist articles in the upper right corner of my page).

I find that the inter-denominational backbiting that goes on here quite often is counter-productive to conservative goals. Protestant vs. Catholic vs. Mormon vs. whatever only serves to divide us at a time when we all need to be as united as possible. [fr_freak]

Why would you assume such "unity" when Mormons are pasting that stuff in "scripture" & then translated it in over 100 languages + publishing the same thing in curricula, magazine articles, online content, missionary lesson plans & talking pts, etc??? And where are your missives to the Mormon church to just plain knock if off if you want to assume such "unity?"

This comment assumes unity where there hasn't been for 180 years. I could probably guess that the folks who the apostle Paul warned the church @ Ephesus about had the bulk in common with the sheep there. Both groups were "religious." So, did Paul play the "allies"-game-don't-divide-us-you're playing? (No)

As Paul was leaving the church of Ephesus, he warned them with this high-priority alert:

"I know that after I leave, savage wolves will come in among you and will not spare the flock. Even from your own number men will arise and distort the truth in order to draw away disciples after them. So be on your guard! Remember that for three years I never stopped warning each of you night and day with tears." (Acts 20:29-31)

Don't we take our cultural cue from a certain "Lord" named Jesus Christ? Who are we to follow when it comes to setting cultural priorities? Jesus and the apostle Paul? or single-tasker Bezinlea?

You missed the entire point. If Mormons were on FreeRepublic spouting that stuff, I would be equally POed with them. However, this is not primarily a religion forum. Ol' Jim allows that, presumably because the Judeo-Christian belief system is a huge part of American conservatism, but our primary purpose here is not to iron out all of the disagreements about scripture. We'd all be better off if we save that for after we've defeated our common enemy, or for discussions that occur outside of FreeRepublic.

What ends up happening here, though, is that we get different factions of people who all hate the leftism infecting our country, but instead of being united in the fight against that, they are at each others' throats over whose religion is the perfect one.

I have seen people argue a point to death on the RF, yet turn around and agree and be united on a news/activism thread.

I hope you're right, but I wonder how many good people we've lost from this forum because they can't stand to see their particular denomination attacked constantly. No way to know for sure. One thing I do know, though, is that if we hand leftists a wedge, they'll use it.

Wrong. The rabid antiMormons have made FR a hostile environment for members of the LDS Church. Their hateful harrassment has sent a number of Mormons away. Its disgusting the behavior that they get away with here. It divides us when we should be united against our common enemies.
