DALLAS - If you want a pillow and blanket in coach on American Airlines, it's going to cost you.
The airline will charge $8 for a pillow and blanket in coach class for domestic trips and some international flights longer than two hours, beginning May 1. The international flights are to and from Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Central America.
Spokeswoman Andrea Huguely said Monday it was an economic decision.

Do you get to keep them?
This is un-American.
And, of course, bringing your own is verboten!
I certainly hope so. The pillows and blankets I have seen in airplanes are worth $2.00 tops.
You couldn’t pay me to touch one of those germ-infested drool-covered things...
germs will build immunity and neck aches mean it is good for you
American airlines could be pricing itself out of business.
Between being groped by the TSA to the sardine-like seats to the jam-packed planes, it is clear air travel has become a nightmare. I have to gulp Valium just to deal with it.
I basically quit flying when TWA went under.
How do they do this when tickets are paid for before you even get on the plane?
I frankly “don’t get it”
I do somewhere in the range of 50 to 100k miles each year.
Flights under 3 hours? Please...that’s not even worth getting comfortable for.
International flights are a whole different thing though
If they don’t offer creature comforts, well, I need a different airline. Shrug.

How truly stupid. I swear I’d rather take a bus than travel on most airlines...Southwest excepted.
>>And, of course, bringing your own is verboten!<<
Probably not. It would be impossible to enforce.
>>You couldnt pay me to touch one of those germ-infested drool-covered things...<<
You are very wise. I use them as an underfoot cushion and don’t touch the pillows (except for maybe the 767s, which are hermetically sealed).
And I always fly 1st Class.
I can get my own travel blanket and pillow for about $8 at Walmart.
Doesn’t seem very fair when the airline is determining the freezing temperature on the plane. Was on an international flight last month and the plane was freezing. I had on a hoodie with the hood on and a blanket. I was still freezing.
I will NEVER fly again... and that was long before this crap.

They take the cash from you on the plane or they have the portable machines that will run your credit cards. That’s how they do it if you want to buy snacks or drinks.
